using TV for computer monitor

Does anyone use their television as a computer monitor? I don't know how to do it, but it sure makes sense if you have a much larger screen on your TV than you do on your computer. That's true for most people.

No, I have no need. A lot of the time I use the computer I'm actually watching something on television at the same time so it wouldn't be practical. My screen is perfect for me. The only time I did that was when I was showing a friend some wedding pictures.

I do not use my television, as a computer screen, and I am not sure how to use it as one. I think is I did use my tv as a computer screen, I would have problems navigating it. I am so use to the closeness of my laptop, it would feel weird.

Don't use a TV screen for a monitor unless the specs are very good.
No need to invest in a 1k tv monitor just for pc gaming. A 200+ monitor will do good.

As long as your T.V. does VGA or your computer can output HDMI, you can use your T.V. as a monitor. I go the other way around, use my monitor as a TV, as it does obth HDMI and VGA. 24-inch though.

If you have a TV monitor that has a VGA or HDMI Input you should be able to use it with most laptop/desktop computers. I use a TV Monitor as my screen when I go and stay at my parents place. I do this because I usually watch a lot of shows off my computer and when it is plugged into the TV Monitor via a HDMI cable all the audio will go through the TV as well.

The issue with using a TV Monitor can be the quality, although it really depends how close you will be to the screen when your using it, and what you will be using it for. Text is the most common thing to look a bit out of place or strange when using a TV as a monitor. Although TV's are often the cheaper choice when your getting into large sizes.

We only used the TV as a computer monitor when playing back movies get too complicated for the DVD player. Oh, we also tried playing some HD games on the TV cause it plays higher resolution videos that our computer monitor can't produce.

Not at the moment but I used to do so. I used what was called a RGV cord I believe. Some TV's use VGA cords instead but it serves the same purpose. It was so cool! I loved it. The tv broke after 5 years or so and I bought a smaller one as well as a new laptop so the whole situation changed. I do highly recommend using the TV monitor to surf the web and play computer games. Multifunctionality at its best.

Ive tried my laptop which has hdmi out on my TV,works fine but I only tried it for testing,I dont use it though as a monitor at all though.

If your tv have a vga port in the back or if you have a hdmi on your tv and computer it will work just fine. I like to be on the computer and watch tv at the same time so I never use mine as a monitor.

I use my 37 inch tv, just plug a hdmi cable from the computer to your tv or if it doesnt hae that go for VGA cable

I'm going to start doing this soon. I moved recently from San Diego to Philadelphia, and left a lot of my bigger gadgets behind. So I no longer have my 22" monitor, but my desk is right next to the 32" tv that I'd like to hook up to play movies on. I don't think I'd actually ever use it for work, but for those days where me and the lady have nothing to watch, I'd like the ability to stream a movie on that sucker.

I don't use my tv as my computer screen mainly because I watch it while I am on the computer. I have a laptop and I like to do more than one thing at a time when it comes to this. I will watch tv and be on my computer switching my attention between the two. Sometimes my attention id more on the computer than the tv, but only if there is nothing interesting on otherwise I will pay attention to the tv more than the computer.

I find it that the TV is way too big for normal use. I use it time to time when I play a movie or want to play game with my friends but I would rather use my 3 monitor set up because I find it much ore comfortable.

I sure do because it is cheaper than buying a TV and a monitor. Mine is 24inch, which is a decent size for working and watching stuff. I do need to get a second screen at some point, though, because programming with one screen is a nightmare.

Spin: Has anyone used their laptop to play video games (with a console adapter)? I saw a device on amazon that would let me use my gamecube with my laptop. So I could use my tv for actual tv or for another console while using my laptop to play my gamecube. Has anyone tried this out? The reviews are mixed.

I always thought that would be a cool thing to do, but then i saw how weird everything looks since its not meant to be on a normal tv and it just kinda turned me away from the idea. I feel like its probably only something that will exist in my dreams

Never as a moniter to browse but I do watch movies with my laptop so I connect the hdmi.cable and get a better experience. Plus my laptop has blu ray so I will make the most out of my laptop.

From all the times I've used a TV (which wasn't much)...the lag was too horrible to use. I personally use my 27inch iMac, a 27inch HP monitor and a 23 inch monitor vertical. There's not really a need for me.

Did you use VGA or HDMI? HDMI doesn't lag for me. I believe it depends on the models and how compatible they are too.
