What are some of your favorite films that are recreations of novels, etc? My current favorite has to be Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It's got a bang up cast - Johnny Depp was by far the greatest choice for Duke/Thompson, He captures the anti-hero spirit with sheer brilliance (plus, He was personal friends with Thomson and got to study his mannerisms first hand). The plot of the movie follows the plot of the book very closely, albeit with a few omissions of dialogue and certain elements of the book's storyline is switched around for cinematic effect. The soundtrack is superb - Tom Jones' "She's A Lady" and "It's Not Unusual" capture the Vegas spirit, as does Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody To Love" with the Matrix scene and "White Rabbit" with the tub scene. I actually saw the movie before I read the book, which ended up being great because I ended up hearing Duke's voice as I was reading...which really added an extra layer of enjoyment. Also, keep an eye out for Ron Paul in the Polo Lounge scene!!
