Alice: Madness Returns

Has anyone played this? It's a sequel to American McGee's Alice, which I never played but have heard good things about. Alice: Madness Returns came out in June, and I'm kind of tempted to buy it. Do I need to have played the first one before playing this one, though?

The professional reviewers said there were too many glitches to make it good but the gamers (like us) gave it all good reviews. No one said you had to play the first one so I doubt you do.

I've actually been curious about this game. I have heard good and bad things about it. I do like the general idea of the game so I might wait until I can find it used and cheap. If you do end up getting it let us know!

I have always wanted to play the firsty Alice, but for some reason, never bought it. I think, if I can find it, I will buy the first, and buy the new Alice. I am a big fan of the dark side of Alice in Wonderland, so I think I will enjoy these games.

There's a sequel? That's awesome. To be honest, I didn't know they made this game for consoles. I played "American McGee's Alice" several years ago on my PC, and it struck me as one of the most original horror games I've come across. Some people say that it is similar to Tim Burton's vision, but I think it's a lot darker than that...

I haven't played it, but I've seen a Youtube video of it. The graphics are very good. I've always thought Alice in Wonderland would be suited to an adaption like this. When you think about the characters, it works better as a darker game than as a children's story.

Similar in weirdness and possibly the color scheme, maybe, but American McGee's Alice is definitely darker than anything Tim Burton's done. Normally TB's stuff is on the edge of horror without actually tipping over into it.

The first game has always been one of my favorites, and from what I gather the second one is more of the same.
The Good: theme, mood, music, general art design, story, etc.
The Bad: Be prepared for jumping puzzle hell.

I adore the way the world looks in both games, though. Just the right mix of "Storybook" and "LSD-Induced nightmare"

It's a scary game? I haven't heard of it before so I'm going to have to go google it to see it on YouTube. You have all peaked my interest. I hope it's not too scary though! Is Alice some freak?

The basic plot of the first game is that Alice's parents die in a fire, and she goes mad. She's catatonic in an asylum, and her traveling through "wonderland" is all happening inside her head. It's basically her against her inner demons to try and get her sanity back.

The game is very suspenseful and can be disturbing at times, but I'd hesitate to call it a horror game. More of a "psychological thriller".
