Bloody Roar 2 = Bloody Special!
It's one of my favorite fighting games on the PS1 when I was still playing in video game cafes. The characters transforming into powerful beasts and unleashing powerful attacks were the things that won me over. The characters look blocky but I considered it to be a good looking game back then. It's not up to par with Tekken or Soul Calibur or Street Fighter but it's good.

Bloody Roar is a fighting game, not a beat em up. Those are two different genres. Fighting games are typically one on one. Beat em ups are games where you go through a level just plowing through enemies until you reach the end.
Anyways, I loved this game as a a kid. It was so awesome to transform into beasts. I haven't played it in years though, so I don't know if it holds up.

Nice observation there Dame. An example of a beat em up would be Fighting Force. You just go about and punch or kick your way to the end of the level. Another term for fighting games are versus games. That's why they're normally one on one.

Well, in the 90s it was quite common to call titles as Tekken or Virtua Fighter beat em ups. I know the difference but it somehow got lost.

I love this game, but honestly it really is nothing too special. The fighting style is alright, and I think most of the appeal of it comes from the ability to transform and not much more. It's great for group gaming sessions though, since most of the time no one in the group would know how to play it well, so you all get to fight in a level playing field.
