That is correct, however i believe you can play free to play games without a subscription to PS Plus

I've had PS Plus for almost 2 years now, it's not that much money for a year subscription considering how many free games I have gotten out of it. It pretty much pays for itself.
And the PS4 does come with 1 free month of PS Plus.

I'd rather pay for a service that works than have a free service that doesn't work. PSN had a lot of problems, XBL was substantially better. I'm glad Sony has invested into getting their online up to par for this generation, and if that means I have to pay $50/year, which is nothing, I'm all for it.

True, right now the PS4 does come with a free month of PS Plus and you need it to play online. It's a shame that their doing it but from what I've seen PS Plus isn't that expensive and you do get plenty of value for money. There are a lot of discounts, free games, etc more than a regular PS membership so it's not like you're getting ripped off.
