How do you play while you download ?

This was a highly advertised feature of the PS4. I have only tried to DL two games so far tbh,, war thunder and blacklight retribution. War thunder never allowed me to at any point and as I went to bed last night Blacklight was about half done and not letting me open it up either.

I looked in the notifications and tried to open it from there, from my list that moves last actions to the left and also tried launching it from within the library. Each time nothing. Is it only certain games or am I missing something obvious.

Also does the PS4 have to be on to download,,as if you switch the av to tv and leave it, it switches itself off after awhile,, is there a setting I need to apply ??

Well, you can play other games while downloading. I think the game needs to support the feature for this to work. When I downloaded my copy of COD Ghosts, it asked me which game mode I play the most, and then said it would download that first so I can play while the rest of the game downloads. I never got to test it because I just let it download over night.

You can set the PS4 to allow network connection while in standby mode, and it will then download your content while in standby.

I've never had an issue with downloading games whilst playing another. I downloaded Blacklight: Retribution, saw that it was going to take 40 odd minutes then put in Lego Marvel to play. Played Lego Marvel for about 20 minutes before I saw the notification the Blacklight Retribution had downloaded.

When I downloaded DCUO I just put the console in standby mode, went to check on it before I went to bed and it was there.

I thought it was you can play the game while it's installing in the background. For instance, it's like in AC4 where we can stand the campaign while the multiplayer is installing in the background. Same thing with Killzone as well, we can start the campaign while multiplayer installs.

I can play other games while I am downloading ,,, but what I meant was I thought you could play part of the game you are dowloading before it is complete. Haven't managed to do that yet,, perhaps lile schoat says it is only some games that support it.

True, I also was under this impression that Sony stated last year that you could start a game downloading and then start to play it within a very short time-minutes,or even seconds!
