How the Nintendo Switch could be the Nintendo Renaissance

Hey guys, I am here to discuss about Nintendo's new console, the Switch. I think this might be a great console and here is why:

It's trailer gives a positive first step into giving into what the console is. The message within the reveal was straightforward and to the point with clear demonstrations on what the console is, a handheld console hybrid that is not the successor to the Wii U. Also, its use of only young adults in the trailer and several AAA 3rd party games show that Nintendo wants to have a wider audience to appeal to the core gamers as well. So, no, this console is not targeted towards kids, but the concept of the Switch is simple and interesting enough for kids to utilize.

Sure, Bethesda said that the Skyrim remastered port there are not confirmed, but a gaming youtuber by the name of MundaneMatt has gotten a report from a representative from Bethesda that the Skyrim port on the Switch is acutally coming. I can't show a pic to the comment since I did not post 30 posts yet, so go to his video called Did nintendo lie to us in the comment sections where he corrects himself.

Anyway, the trailer for the Nintendo Switch has become quickly viral, positive sign that they have already garnered an audience who wants to buy the Switch juding from the unanimous positive reception. The Wii U's reveal trailer only garnered 11 million views over 5 years, but the Nintendo Switch has garnered 16 million views in 3 days!

Another important factor is that there are no stupid gimmicks like motion controls or touchscreens shown in the video (I maybe wrong, but if the features had touch controls and motion controls, why did you not show them in the first place?). This is the part where Nintendo realizes that Players just want to play games, not any of those gimmicks, so they instead have a concept where gamers could desire for.

The main factor that could make it a success is that they finally have a reason to make gamers consider Switch or Playstation/Xbox, something that the Wii U lacked. Since Nintendo Switch also has a rather surprisingly huge amount of third party developers on their tail, they could make gamers think:

"Would I want to play a really pretty 3rd game with great graphics on an expensive system, or would I want to play 3rd party games on the go and play them anywhere at anytime while still having good graphics on there?"

However, there are also reasons why the Switch could be the final nail in Nintendo's coffin. The trailer left many questions unanswered to such like: How long is the battery life? Are the specs and graphics at least HD? What is the price of this system?

If the price is over $300, does not go on par with PS4 or Xbox One graphics, and has a very short battery life, support for this system would vanish immediately. I wish these three things would not happen and I wish Nintendo the best for this system to succeed.

Before I end this speculation, Phil Spencer, the Boss of Xbox, was impressed by the Switch and gave it a thumbs up. Neat.

I doubt that PS or Xone owners will purchase this new console.
Probably Wii-U users will, but all depends on how many old games they will be able to play on the new console. Probably none.

-PS Vita is already able to play PS4 games on the small screen so, nothing new here. In addition, the Switch isn't able to handle two screens
-With 10W of power, the processor will not reach the level of performance of a PS4 & or a Xone (50-60W)
-The portability of a console is just for kids, now called young adults... lol. (never seen an adult with a PS Vita)
-In the wi-fi era, they still have a 3,5" jack for the headphones
-A good smartphone is probably able to play the same kind of games, with the same performances
-Games like Mass Effect, which are creating a huge hype among the gamers, will not be available for the Switch. Not the best beginning in my opinion

Well, Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 was seen in the trailer, so maybe it is a possibility there could be Wii U ports.

Also, triple A games are also very likely for the Switch like Bethesda's Skyrim and other famous developers known for Triple A games like Activision's call of Duty could be on the switch.

Also, I never owned a PS Vita, but was it pretty much like a Wii U where you could play games offscreen TV, but only within a certain distance? If not, then was the Vita ever marketed as both a console and a handheld system? If both of these answers are no, then I can see why it can be deemed not new.

You can play PS4 games on a PS Vita while the PS4 is turned on and the Vita is within the wi-fi range (15-20 meters?).
With some games which support it, you also can use the PS Vita like a second monitor, while playing on the PS4 as main console.
For example: with AC Unity you could play your game on TV while the map was displayed on the Vita.

Back to the Switch: I think they will keep their market share (Wii share) but imo they will not be able to increase it.

I could see buying this, it has been a while since I owned anything from Nintendo. I had a used gamecube I bought cheap and never played. A lot of fond memories on the N64. This looks like a very neat device with the portable gaming aspect and would love to get back into some Zelda games. All comes down to price, I would pay $400 - $500 CDN for it.
