How to play online

So a co-worker was telling me that you could play other people online or somehow if you know their username. She said it was free too (unlike Xbox where you have to pay to play others). Iâ??m so clueless with this â?? is this true and how do I set it up to play others?

It's so easy I always assumed everybody knew how I guess.. Start playing a disc with multiplayer capabilities, choose the option that says multiplayer or online multiplayer, something like that. You are going to have internet access set up and connect the PS3 to your router in settings. It's all very straightforward.

Wow, that sounds pretty easy. I was thinking that your ps3 was hooked up to the internet and the games were there. I guess I am not as tech savvy as I thought! Thanks for giving me the basic run-down.

That does sound easy, but I would guess a lot of people don't know about that capability. I'm surprised Xbox charges for this while Playstation doesn't. I assume it's not too much. With multiplayer games becoming more popular all the time, that would give Playstation a big advantage over Xbox.

You know, I have an Xbox and I'm not even sure how it works exactly. I was always under the impression you had to pay for an Xbox Live account to do anything online. Even to use Netflix you have to pay for Xbox Live.

I think that Xbox charges for all online games, and they're prices are not that cheap. Don't you just love how simple it is to set up a PlayStation to play online games? Easy and free - the best combination ever. That's why I consider Sony to have the best console nowadays.

Exactly. That is why I will never get rid of my PS3 no matter how much I adore the Xbox or Wii. There is no other online gaming experience that compares in terms of quality for free.
