How to tell if the controller is done charging?

I have no idea how to tell when the controller is fully charged. The PS3 controller has a blinking light that indicates charging but the DS4 doesn't. Also, how long does it take to fully charge it because sometimes I leave the PS4 on standby just for charging?

Press and hold the XMB button to see the level of charge. It will tell you if it's 100%. Also, it takes about 2 hours to fully charge, I believe that's without using it during charge.

Actually I know I can do that with the XMB but I was hoping that there'd be a way to tell by not using that. Like when I'm charging in standby I would like to know when to turn off the console. Or the console's going to itself off after it's done charging?

I believe you can set the console to turn off at a certain time. As far as I know there's no real way to tell but they should do that!

Agree,its not as good as on PS3.
At least the leds would stop blinking when its fully charged.

Its many little things like this that all need to be changed/fixed/added etc.

Agreed, they need to remember, we gamers are lazy folks. Especially when we're not working 8-12 hours a day. When we game, we don't have time to hold the xmb button damn it!

They have that big light on the controller, why didn't they make use of that to indicate charging? I want to charge it when I'm not using it and I don't want to go to the console back and forth to check every now and then.

That's why I love my Energizer PS3 charger. Hoping the PS4 charger will do the same. It's so idiot (Jen aka ME) proof. Red is charging and green is fully charged.

I know that when mines is charging in standby the controller will glow yellow and fade in and out. Once its fully charge the light will go off.

while playing or system on you can only check it from pressing and holding the ps button.

I sometimes charge mine from PC USB port but the pulsating yellow light never seems to go off no matter how long I have it connected.

Mine's doing that now, first time charging this way from no bars in XMB

It sucks. Apart from XMB, there is really no way to know how much charge is done. Put down 2 Hours for a full charge, maybe add another 15 minutes to be sure. It the light stops fading in and out then, the charge is done.

This might sound like common sense but, all I do to find out if my controllers are fully charged is simply by charging it for 2 to 3 hours. I personally don't see any purpose in buying any type of special charger, seems a little overkill to me. If you really must know how much charge your controller actually has, just turn on your console and check for yourself, it is not that big of a deal.

The light bar turns to orange if you charge DS4 while it is off, and when it is fully charged the light bar goes off too.

When you are playing you need to hold PS button to see it.

XMB button is the PS button on the DS4 controller. With the console powered on, press and hold the button for 1 second to see the options to turn off/standby and stuff. At the bottom right, you can check the battery level of the controller. The PS4 is called Dynamic Menu or something, XMB is for the PS3.

While in rest mode, the large light bar on controller slowly blinks in orange when charging. (Takes an hour or so). When charging is complete, the light bar turns off.

I get around this problem by using a charging station. Got the official Sony one (though they didn't make it). The best 30 bucks I've ever spent, considering how fast these controllers die. When I put it in, it blinks the light bar yellow. When it's done, it shuts off. It's a shame the fact that the light bar changes colors but it doesn't tell you the battery level when it's plugged in. Just make it yellow for charging and green or blue for fully charged. Come on Sony. So many little things that they over looked
