Howdy folks! I just got my PS5 and I really need some help!

I got the PS5 a few days ago. actually the day the network went down! I was able to set up my account but somehow I selected the PassKey option & couldn't deactivate it. So I decided to start over with the factory reset. But now when I start the setup process the first step is plug the controller into the pS5 & push the button. I do & nothing happens. I've tried resetting the controller but nothing works. I'm literally dead in the water...and the first time I set it up it went perfectly. Thank you for any advice you might have to get me back up & running
