I love the PS4, but come on they really did this?

I don't bother myself when a large company like sony does something like that since I am always sure they had a reason for it and would be soon responding to their customer complains by making better improvements.

Playstation 4 is still awesome and though I'm tired of people making short cords. 5-6 feet is good though, it's just enough space to not be in the way but also reach your TV. I guess we gamers have different set ups lol

You will be able to get cheap extension cables after a year. I had the PS2 Eye Toy and the PS3 Eye but there is no way I am buying the PS4 camera (nor do I want Microsoft's Kinect). It has never been worth the money to have the Eye Toy no matter what they rename it to.

I can see why this is frustrating. It seems they have not payed much attention to some small details, however overall if it's functional it's not a huge issue for me.

Well 6 feet is good, but I can see why you would be angry and frustrated. The ps4 eye sometimes needs to be adjusted I think. Maybe when your tv is in front of some stuff or near a wall where you have bookshelves and need that extra few feet.

Im not sure what his settings are at but i can run 5.1 or DTS on my movies and games. He has too many variables...I.E. Is the dude/or dudette trying to play a movie in dolby 5.1 that is only formatted for DTS?...or vice versa. Are the audio out priorities on his PS4 set right. Also sometimes Ive lost 5.1 or DTS sound upon starting a movie, But this was rectified by hitting the options button on the controller and i noticed that the audio was set linear PCM and not Bitstream. Then a persons whole receiver set up comes into play. He/She didnt specify that they were having problems setting up surround sound, It was just stated that PS4 doesn't support surround and my friend....This is just not true lol. Its looking more and more like this forum needs an AV home theater forum to answer these questions cuz there are a lot of them.

I guess I will hold off on getting the PS4 eye. My TV is on one side of the room and my console is all the way on the back of the room. No way a 6ft cable will reach. lol.

If they made it wireless like the controller then that would have been perfect. Oh well.

Proprietary is the wave of the future. Not only do you make more money by licensing the rights to third parties, but you control that part of the market.

you know the cable for the camera looks just like the cable for printers in your house. Check it out. if they look the same you can get extensions at office depot etc.

No 5.1 through HDMI? Does that mean there is no DTS-HD etc? Man I hope there is, I'm off to look now.

Edit: Well there's Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD so I have no idea why you can't get 5.1 over HDMI...

Just got my PS4 , no games yet, so I watched a movie. My home theater receiver does not have HDMI so I use the optical ports. Seem that the PS4 does not support either Dolby or DTS 7.1 so the audio comes out Linear PCM. Called customer support yep maybe on the next software update....you have got to be kidding right, nope....Guess I will use my PS3 for movies, but it truly makes me wonder if the PS4 is worth it at this point..

My PS3 works fine on my home theater, but when I play a Bluray on the PS4, audio is only Linear PCM. I worked with PS customer service today & from what the guy said the PS4 does not support 7.1 only 5.1, so audio will default to Linear PCM. Doesn't make sense, will still dig some more, but why would they not support 7.1 when it seems to be the standard for the industry....

No it's not.

To Atown:
The cable is not like a "printer" cable (otherwise known by people who have a clue as a standard USB cable). If it was, none of us would be posting anything here. We know how to extend a standard USB cable and where to get them.

To others:
Please stop calling it the Eye Toy. The PS2 camera is the last one that was called the Eye Toy. The PS3 and PS4 cameras are called just that.
Also, to everyone who was so sure Sony or someone would put out an extension pretty quickly, it hasn't happened yet. Believe me, I am really upset about this.
I would actually pay $100 for an extension cable at this point (I know, that's ridiculous, but I really need it).

Cut the cable in half, then using a soldering iron and some heat shrink tubing solder a length of cat 5 networking cable in the middle....

job done :)

Ummm no Bmax50. The end of the camera cable is a standard "A" style which is the old style for printers. The more commonly used USB (cell phone chargers, mouses etc.) is the standard "B." Good job tryin to put me on blast though...pshhh

Yeah that is kind of a bummer. It is something that hasn't affected me yet but I feel like it will someday. Hopefully this will be corrected in an update sometime soon.
