I never thought that Tomb Raider would be so violent

Hey guys, just finished Tomb Raider and what can I say? It was one hell of a ride especially for miss Lara Croft. I never thought that the developers would make the game extremely violent. The kills that Lara can do and the ways that Lara can die. . . They're all so bloody and gory. I never expected that. What about you guys?

I loved this game. Surprised me as I thought it was just going to be another average "Uncharted" wannabe. So glad I was wrong. Yeah throughout the whole game I thought "Damn, surely it can't get any worse for Lara, can it?" but yep. She just kept getting the short straw!

As for bloody and gory, I actually don't remember it being that bloody and gory? But I played it when it was first released so I can't really remember.

I can see where you're coming from. The thing you have to remember though is that we're in a new age of gaming were a lot of games are extremely violent in order to attract potential players. I think the developers decided that a Tomb Raider game today that played like the old ones wouldn't sell all that great. So I think they decided to make the game similar to Uncharted so it would sell decently. Maybe if there is a sequel they will tone down on the violence even though that seems unlikely considering how successful the game was.

Sorry for the gory part. I got carried away. But there seems to be blood all over. Or is it just me. Still, it all added an extra element where you really cared for Lara and it reached the point for me where it was painful watching her die. That made the game more intense. It came to a point where I did not want to see any more of the death animations of Lara in the game.

That's hilarious! I've always been a fan of the puzzles inherent to the TR series and, to an extent, the combat, although it was always a bit limited. When I first heard of this one for the PS3 I certainly thought it was going to carry these elements along with some new ones, but I never expected it to be as dark as that. It seems like a nice change in pace and it's always interesting to play origin stories, I'll probably try it out soon.

Violence in video games really doesn't bother me personally, so I tend not to think about it unless it's exceptionally violent or something. I haven't played Tomb Raider yet, myself (though I've seen clips and demos), but past games seemed pretty tame from what I can tell. I think it's possible to make a good game without relying on violence, but I suppose if it's something they haven't done before in the series then it's more original than it might be otherwise. I've never been all that excited by Lara Croft as a character, though, so I'm a bit biased in that way.

Hey guys, just saw a video on YouTube compiling some of the deaths seen in Tomb Raider for the current gen consoles. Check this out:
The developers really outdid themselves this time. I wonder what's in store for us on the next generation systems?

I was surprised with it the first time I found out about it as well, then having played a bit of it later on made me kind of understand why it was necessary. I guess they decided on this because the old structure was getting a bit overused. I would have loved to see one of those come out for the current generation before they decided to fully phase it out though. Although, I can't really vote too much on that because I never really played any of the Tomb Raider titles as much as I just watched someone else play it.

Really nice how they gave so much detail to all of those graphics scenes. For once, i feel bad for not dying all over the place just so i can see all the hard work the developers had when creating these types of scenes.

Ah yes, I remember those death scenes now and remember thinking damn. Brutal!

Yeah, I saw that clip somewhere and cringed when that happened. I generally don't care for games that use shocking images, but I think they do it fairly well on here. I think it conveys a sense of chaos and danger for Lara, and it's at least somewhat realistic for the situations she gets into. That's all speculation, though, since I haven't actually played the full game yet.

I think that the game is all the more brutal because these deaths are happening to Lara who is a girl. If this happened to, say, Solid Snake or Nathan Drake, I think the impact would be lessened a little bit. The game has really earned its mature rating this time.

Wow! I never realized how much violence was in this tomb raider, although I have to say I'm kind of wanting to head out to the Red Box and get it now! That video is actually pretty gruesome and there's no telling how few and far between these death scenes are. All I know for sure is that sh*t just got real. I hope everyone gets a chance to check that out up there!

It's not even so much that she's female as that she's relatively feminine. In past titles you don't really think of the fact that she's a woman (except how can you now with those knockers) because she displays a lot of masculine traits. But they pretty much redid the look of the character as a whole, so she comes off as a lot more woman-like. But I think it's more about the lack of experience that gives Lara her innocence.

The violence in the game is one of the first things I noticed while playing. Nonetheless it was a great game and experiance playing it. The Tomb Raider games really have changed over the years.

I was a little surprised at the violence in the Uncharted games because I expected it to pretty much be straight up adventuring. It has a good balance of action and adventure (hence it being referred to as an action-adventure game), though. Chances are that the producers of the new Tomb Raider game took the hint after the Uncharted series was met with so much acclaim, but then the Tomb Raider franchise has been around longer.
