If I only buy physical disc copies of games, how much memory does each take?

I read that downloaded games from the PSN Store even take 40 GB of memory.

If I buy physical copies, how much memory does the install take approximately?

Why?

Downloading a digital copy means you have the entire game on your hard drive... I'd say a minimum of 20gb per game - MINIMUM.

Physical copies.. I believe it installs SOME items on your hard drive for smoother/quicker loading.. But it would be significantly less.. And when updates are passed to players, that would tack onto it as well.

I have BF4 and CoD: Ghosts right now (actual copies), and I was using 100gb of the 500gb hard drive last I checked the end of last week. But that includes various programs, operating system, etc.. plus the installed components of what was installed from the two games I own.

It varies based on the game, there's no exact figure for it. Some games run exclusively off the disk, whereas others require you to install the entire thing to the hard drive anyways. I'd advise simply buying a larger hard drive, and uninstalling games you're not currently playing. It's pretty unlikely that you'll fill up a 1-2TB hard drive with all the games you currently play, even if each and every single one of them were over 50 gigabytes in size.

Updates, as mentioned, are also an issue. Even if the game ran exclusively off the disk, you'd still need regular updates for it to be installed in order to play the multiplayer mode or improve your game experience - which will inevitably take up disk space too.

Is anyone else having problems installing from discs? NBA2K14 installed for roughly five hours last night before I finally just gave up. The most I was ever able to do was play the default quick game between Miami and San Antonio. Madden seemed to install fine but immediately crashes when I try to play. At the moment I seem to have a $400+ paperweight. I'm not upgrading from PS3 and I can't find answers to these problems. Please help.

If you install even a 1tb drive (like 90 bucks) you're looking at roughly maybe 20 games? that's a lot to play at once.

Usually, all you have to worry about man, is game data and saves. Downloadable games, you're downloading the entire game + patches/game data.

If it's the same as PS3 then no, you'll save tons of space. Upgrading your HDD though is a great idea though but you gotta research it and know exactly what you're doing first. This way you should have no fear of having 'too many games'

I put a 1TB HDD in my PS4 the first day.Its quite easy really,there are plenty of vids on youtube on how to do it too.

In comparison to digital downloads, you'll save a ton of space. But exact numbers really do depend on the game, also people going with digital downloads are in it for the convenience of the service more than the price. So if you're really concerned about space, and aren't to sure about installing more space physical discs are the way to go.
