Microsoft rolls back on Games for Windows Live

Microsoft has recently announced that they will stop supporting the GFWL marketplace, but not it seems like they are scrapping the whole service. In an interview with Gamespot they announced that Batman Arkham Origins will not actually be using GFWL:

The PC version of the game will instead use Valve's Steamworks to manage achievements and multiplayer, Warner Bros. has said to IGN. Both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City previously used the GFWL service on PC.

Definitely a very interesting turnout of events, Microsoft were very supportive of their rather crappy service, but it looks like they decided to give in to Steam. Will similar platforms like Origin follow? I guess that only time will tell.

I thought that I should do an update on this. They previously announced that they will be ditching the GFWL marketplace and stated that certain specific titles won't be using it, but now they have decided to totally stop supporting it. Now this might somewhat mess up the PC games that have previously used this service. Ultimately it all depends on what the developers choose to do here. Dark Souls dev has announced that they will be released a patch for the multiplayer to work without GFWL, but we don't know how this will affect other games. Here you can find the full list of GFWL games, you might want to check out how your games will be affected by this :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Games_for_Windows_–_Live_titles
