On Its Way Out?

Do you think that PC gaming is on its way out? I used to have a lot of friends who played on their computers and now that everybody has laptops and PS3s they don't seem to be into computer games.

I think there will always be people who prefer PC games, but it is so hard not to switch over to console gaming. There is so much more, you can do with consoles, and they are constantly being updated.

Yes, I think PC gaming is on its way out. My friends who were PC gamers, have moved on to the joys of console playing. Who doesn't want to play on a console, when there are so many innovations coming out?

I think PCs will still be used for all the social site gaming (those are increasing) as well as a lot of the retro game sites.

I agree that for those who want to play games on social networks there will always be those types of games. Anything that is based solely online I guess. I think that certain games like solitaire are best played on the computer but consoles are way more popular, in my opinion.

No I doubt it. I think though that PC gaming will survive on desktops. But on laptops? It probably is gonna die eventually because so many laptops are weak these days. They run down, malfunction, or overheat within a year or two. So people might not invest as heavily in a laptop to game as they did in the past.

Actually, it is the opposite. Console gaming is getting ready to be on its way out.

Why do you think that Sony is releasing a new console? Their current one is still more powerful then the 360 and Wii. They have no need to other then to generate more profits.

MS on the other hand likes to charge and then overcharge.

PC gaming is not dieing at all and I will actually say it is growing. I spend more time on my PC then I do playing my console. The PC already wins and people are just catching wind.

I would agree with Viper here. Console gaming seems to be on its way out. Although consoles have come a long way and started to introduce more features like watching movies and stuff, ultimately it's still a machine that is meant solely for gaming. PC has so much more to offer and is easily customizable. With newer and better graphic cards rolling out like nVidia's Titan series, PC gaming looks like it has a bright future ahead.

No, not at all. More people are switching the PC with the content that's being put out recently.
I have a ps3 and xbox sitting there untouched for about a week already.

I think my answer to your question will be biased due to the fact that I'm a PC gamer, and I've never bought any gaming console after the PS2. My parents thought that I would be more practical to buy a gaming laptop which they know would stand the test of time rather than to buy a new console every 3-5 years. To answer your question, no, I don't think PC gaming is on its way out. You can never be bored with PC gaming since there are always different options to keep the game fresh. "Tired of Minecraft? Add mods!" "Running out of games to play? Go to Steam! There are games out there worth a dollar only for you to play." That's my reasoning.

Yeah, just like the Ouya was going to be the next big thing.

If you notice, PC will always be able to play console games better (see Dark Souls, Devil May Cry 4 and, as soon, Metal Gear Rising) and if they don't, they will just end up being able to emulate the consoles in the later years.

This is a biased opinion coming from a PC gamer.

Well, in all honesty, I own several consoles, but I always come back to do PC gaming instead for many many reasons. Even though my computer isn't top notch (yes, it is a laptop), I can still get decent performance out of most games (probably not as polished as a console, sure). What really makes it interesting though is the fact that PC is much easier to develop for.
As a result, we have the bigger indie scene (though XBLA does have a lot of nice ones too) giving us games like Hotline Miami or Don't Starve first, usually. Also, PC tends to offer more than console versions of games. It's rare that there is console-exclusive features, but on the PC, mods make PC versions of games much more interesting than the vanilla games on xbox (Skyrim comes to mind).

Of course, of everything I said, I'm sure there are many who think that my points are worthless since they don't care about that stuff, and that's good! That means you're probably going to be the ones that stay true to console gaming. I feel like PC gaming is not on it's way out, and neither is console gaming. I feel as though we're reaching an equilibrium where both are played on an even level because of what each system offers.

I don't know what the numbers would say, but I sincerely doubt that PC gaming is going anywhere. Steam is as popular as ever, and clearly people are enthusiastic about gaming in general. PC gaming has technically been around as long as PCs have, and it's not like console gaming in that you have to upgrade your system entirely for each generation (but upgrading in general is a good idea). I personally prefer console gaming, but that's mostly because I don't have the money or the time to get a gaming PC that will actually run the games I want to play. Plus, there's the whole DRM thing, which is a huge turnoff. But I don't have to be able to play Skyrim on maxed out settings to have fun playing games on my PC.

Nah, I don't think PC gaming will be going away anytime soon. It's always going to be sort of that second option for people who don't play console. Also, the other thing that PC gaming has going for it is the advent of Steam and how that has taken off. Then of course since PC's have the best graphics on the market and are always used for the tech demos that we see during the big events like E3.
