Online Multiplayer with a used (second-hand) game disc

Hello. I'm planning on buying a used PS4 game disc for COD: Ghosts and/or Battlefield 4. Can I play online with it? or is there some kind of one-time activation key within the case for online access? My google fu resulted in just a single forum thread that discussed this and it said online multiplayer was possible but I'd like to confirm for you fine people.

Also, What about the different version of the game (such as Hardened and something else)? Is there something significant I would be missing if I buy those versions ?

You will be able to play online on both COD: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 if you purchase them pre-owned. I hired out both games and were able to play online so you'll be fine.

I think the only difference between the standard and Hardened Edition is maybe a bonus map, emblem and bonus multiplayer skin (which I believe is Ghost from the Modern Warfare series.)

Can I ask why buy the very average Ghosts game when Advanced Warfare is less than 2 weeks away?
Perhaps cause its cheaper now and you havent played a CoD game for a while?

btw: Keep in mind if you buy a used copy of the Hardened Ed of Ghosts its very likely any access to the bonus map and MP skin etc has been used,as it comes in the form of DLC via a redeemable code so Id check that first if thats an issue.
