Playing Online

Hi all, need some help here. Both my son and nephew have their PS+ accounts up and running, but now we are trying how to connect and play multi-player games online. Both boys prefer their sports games (Madden, NBA2K15, etc) and would like to play against each other using online gaming. So...
1) is this possible?
2) and if so, please explain (in detail) how to connect and play.

scratch that...figured out how to use "share play". cool feature.

yes, my nephew's download speed wasn't great (under 3 Mbps), so there was some lag on his end. We have Verizon FIOS, he has Optimum cable. But they got it going, and had a great time.
