PS3 problems

I am having a bit of a problem with a friends PlayStation he gave me to fix. I stupidly said I could fix the problem but this may be a little over my head. Basically the problem is that when the console is turned on it makes a buzzing noise and will show no picture or play any sound. I feel like this is an un-fixable problem, but I thought maybe there is a possibility that someone here will know what is going on. I've searched the internet but I can't seem to find anything close to what I am talking about. I would appreciate any help, thanks.

Could be a few things, but it may also be one thing in general. When did the problem start happening? If it did so after he changed displays on a television or a monitor, then it could possibly just be that it's trying to find the new display. Turn off the PS3 so that it's in stand by mode (Red light) and then hold down the power button for a few seconds until you hear a second beep. This refreshes and resets the display settings. usually if he had it set up to an HDMI connection and it messed up, that's probably the easiest way to fix it since it resets both Audio and Video. That's really the only thing I can think of, solely because I had the same problem when I borrowed his PS3 a long time ago. Hooked it up to my monitor and had no sound or audio and thought it must have gotten messed up somehow until I spent a bit googling the problem. Let me know if that's all it took.
