PS4 has Blu Ray 3D Support at Launch. Xbox One doesn't

It has been confirmed that the PlayStation 4 will have 3D Blu Ray support at launch but Microsoft has confirmed through CNET that the Xbox One will lack support for 3D Blu Rays at launch. Its gotta make you wonder if they are still trying to push digital downloads or if its something they could get done before launch. Honestly i'm not sure how many people actual use 3d blu rays. Its nice to know the feature is available. I've got two myself (iron man 3 & Star Trek) so for me it will just replace my 3d capable PS3 .

Microsoft confirmed the Xbox One’s lack of 3D Blu-ray playback to the folks over at CNet, though a spokesperson for the company didn't rule out adding the feature through an update later on. In all probability, whether or not the feature comes available will likely depend on how big the demand is for it.

As far as the Sony PS4 is concerned, Engadget has confirmed that the console will feature 3D Blu-ray support, just as its predecessor the PS3 does. To do so, users will be required to activate their console and download the initial 1.50 firmware update, then they’ll be ready to go.

UPDATE: Sony has confirmed that only 3d games will be available at launch. So neither system will have it for movies.

I think as technology and consumerism continues to move forward simultaneously, Sony has chosen the correct approach in essentially giving consumers access to multiple forms of media through one medium. I would be surprised if sometime down the line Microsoft chooses to adopt the same ideology, at least in terms of 3D. I'm also getting the vibe that you will be hearing more about Xbox and 3D as we get closer the the launch of their entertainment system accessory.

Honestly i'm not sure how many people actual use 3d blu rays.

I do,but I dont use my PS3 for it.Movies that is. I use a stand alone 3D capable blu ray player.
I have tried a few games in 3D but I dont think it works that well.

Blu ray movies in 3D however 'can' be a lot of fun,depending on the movie and if it was filmed in 3D,these are always better.

I prefer using a standalone Blu Ray player as well. I’m a huge fan of a show called Nikita, and looking at the size for all 3 seasons before the upcoming season 4, the Blu Ray size is really huge. Not like it’ll be an issue to play on the PS4 though, it’s just that it’ll limit how many movies I can have at once to be honest.

And even trying to play it on the laptop, some computers/laptops at best can play 720p or 1080p, but I guess if you have a T.V. to be used in tandem with the PS4, this can be a huge advantage to get some sales with movies and T.V. series. With how Netflix is continually growing as a go-to source for home entertainment without cable, maybe the PS4 will be the default source as a supplement for that as well.

there was actually another article where one of the people who announces things for PS4 said that although 3dBluray games are supported at launch, 3d bluray movies arent. Also, he said there were no 3d bluray games planned for launch or in the pipeline. So its all moot anyway

I don't use it, but it's a nice feature to have.
I'm sure I will end up needing it in the future. Since it's already there, another positive point to Sony.

I heard recently that the PS4 also can not read Blue-Ray 3D for now. It will happen later as Xbox One.

Sony has really thought the essential for the launch. The PS3 is still work very well.
Xbox One is a great console to multi-task with Kinect. The only good quality laXbox One (joke).

Then most of the time, we do not not lie, we do not look our DVDs in 3D. So I understand Sony for not having made one of their primary goals.

Then it's not everyone who has a 3D TV.
So wait patiently for a future update.

I love blue ray and I think every console should have it. Crisp and clear quality. I get to rent blue-ray from Redbox and be able to enjoy it without a blu-ray player. I find it awesome that Sony included bluray discs.
