Sony teases new ‘slim’ announcement

Sony is inviting select press to a breakfast briefing next week for the release of… something slim. Could it be the PS Vita 2000?

“Following the biggest launch in PlayStation history, join us for an introduction to the slimmest,” reads the invite.”

The event takes place January 30th at 9am in London. Last year Sony released the PS Vita 2000 in Japan – it’s 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than the existing model, and features an LCD screen rather than OLED. It also comes with 1GB of built-in memory.

Well I think it's way too early to speculate that this could be a Slim PS4. I'm not interested in the Vita, so this announcement probably won't appeal to me maybe it does to you!

Whatever "slim" it may be, I definitely don't want to see a PS4 Slim being announced although the chances are low. If they do, I'm going to rage for trolling people like that. Anyway, I'm leaning towards Sony announcing a "slim" for its handheld and since Vita is the only one right now so I'm placing my bet on a slim Vita too. My sister's going to rage too since she's just got the Vita 2000 last month.

I am betting it's the Vita 2000, my wife has one and I think the original is better, anyway I believe its way, way too early to bring out a PS4 slim, or heck even announce one.

I'd put my money on a newer version of a Vita. Although I do see a slim PS4 coming sometime in the near future, it's way too early right now.

I'm calling Vita 2000 (though they'll also probably call it something else). Way too early for a PS4. Wouldn't expect that for another couple years. Definitely not a PS3 because how much slimmer can you get?

I'd be pretty disappointed if they were to release a PS4 slim this early on, would be a shamelessly blatant cash grab. Doubt it though, we didn't see a PS3 slim last generation for years.

I would love to get a slimmer model. I have a tiny apartment and need to save space any way that I can. I have my carpenter friend making me some new shelves for my games and consoles. I am hoping that all games go digital. So much space would be saved!

Link doesn't work anymore so I checked out the article from IGN.

I agree that it's most likely to be the Vita Slim, and I personally am a little apprehensive about the LCD screen but at the same time I also heard about some of the benefits of it such as being way cheaper and even having a longer lifespan than LED screens. It most probably is going to be the Vita in my opinion, since I am assuming they will be pushing their handheld a lot more this year because it can be tied in with the PS4. What I'm really waiting for, however, is the Vita TV.
