Stuck in Large Computer Room

I'm in the large computer room with towers. I can get to the second tower (after blowing up the first, climbing the central tower and dropping in a grenade) but can't get further. I kill about a zillion robots that are trying to kill me, but they keep coming. While I can typically keep up, the damned gun has to be "reloaded" constantly. While that happens I'm covered with robots and have to start all over again.

Okay - there must be a simple solution. What is it?

Secondly, in this game, if you get stuck - like I have been, is there some key/cheat to admit defeat and move on?
