It's not necessary. Not at all really. But I'll still see it. I mean, it's Terminator. It's Arnie.
I want to say the trailer looks good. But I've been wrong before. I thought Terminator 3 and Salvation looked good too.
All of it, if I'm deep down honest, does have me very curious. It seems like it actually starts like the original Terminator film did and then changes when Kyle finds Sarah. I'm guessing Arnie was sent back to her childhood to raise her and protect her, and wait for the day when the T-800 from the first film goes back to the 80's to kill Sarah Conner. But surprise! Arnie is waiting for....err... Arnie and kills him off. That's what I'm guessing. No idea what else is or will be happening.
TL;DR: I'll see it. I'm more curious then excited as I've been wrong before. I'm hoping

Does look interesting and I'll definitely check it out. I like the idea of exploring alternate realities and universes based on the decisions from the future. Also explains why they have multiple actors play the same characters in all the movies 
But the notions of alternate universes could backfire if they don't write and execute it right.
