The Last Of Us DLC (Spoiler)

Anyone else REALLY disappointed by it?

It was fine gameplay-wise, but the story almost made me want to go back in time and not play it.

I honestly thought we would find out whether Ellie had to kill Riley when she turned at the very least, but no. It offered almost nothing in terms of padding out the story, it was almost exactly as I imagined it when Ellie told us the story in the main game. It seems very much to me like they thought 'well we told them it was coming so we better make something'. Especially since it goes back to when you're healing Joel, it had me and others thinking something epic would happen but it seems that was just filler too.

I finished watching it (see below – my disappointment with it) last night. I thought it was decent given the short amount of time it’s had to be put together. It's just added a little bit more to a game which I personally rate as a masterpiece – and I really don’t use that term lightly, believe me.

We finally got to meet Riley and had an adventure, albeit brief, with her and Ellie. Personally, I thought it was decently written and the background music and sounds were again absolute top notch. There was just about enough in there to bond with Riley in my opinion. The scene in the music store towards the end was very poignant. I must admit, I found the bits going back to Joel a bit out of place considering this was supposed to be centered around Ellie and Riley, but given the short amount of gameplay there is, I honestly thought it was done pretty well. I can understand why it's been done that way. Ellie going back to where she more than likely last had good times with Riley and having Joel there injured just brought back those memories.

I'll try and not give too much away about the ending but I will admit I did expect to see Riley's actual demise and the heartbreak Ellie would have no doubt shown, but at least naughty Dog have left that open for the gamer to decide what actually happened. I was a bit "meh" at first when I saw it but I’ve slept on it now and again, I can see why it’s been done in that way. I think they’ve actually been quite clever about it. If you've played the 'proper' game it's clear what was going to happen and rather than end it on a bad note, Naughty Dog have decided to leave it with the girls on a relative ‘high’ as such. Probably shortly before things take a turn for the worst.

It can't be compared in any way to the 'proper' game because after all this is only a DLC. It just adds a bit more background and I'm happy enough with that. If it was an actual second game then yes, this would have been a poor effort and I would have to agree with you. I only hope we'll be treated to a second game because in my opinion 'The Last Of Us' really does deserve it. There's *a lot* of potential.

The biggest disappointment for me was that it's not available on disc – meaning I've had to instead watch a YouTube walkthrough rather than play it for myself. Developers/Producers seem to have completely forgotten that not everyone does or can do online gaming... It's an ongoing gripe that I have with them...

I disagree, I thought it was a moving storyline showing two friends having a night of fun, possibly falling in love (whether this be via friendship or romantically) and then finding out both of them were bitten, we know Ellie is immune but she didn't know that when they were bitten. It was a story about friendship rather than a tale of complete hardship and death.

You looked too much into it, that's why you were disappointed. I thought the DLC fit quite well with the main game. Plus we got to see a side of Ellie we didnt see in post-riley. And although a lot of people didnt like the whole kissing scene. I enjoyed it.

Nope. I absolutely loved this game. For sure one of the best I've ever played. The story was fantastic and the Left Behind DLC makes it even better with some backstory.

I don't think that that was the point. What I believe was the reason Naughty Dog decided to go back and forth was to show two distinct contrasts in Ellie's life. You have her in the past in the military school. She was just a kid like everyone else; getting into trouble in school, playing around with her best friend, you know doing normal things a 12 year old does. It showed the innocence of her and her not experiencing the outside world from school. Then it flash forwards to right after Joel got hurt. She is no longer that girl she was in school. Now its a stark contrast of her being thrown into adult things and being fully cast out into the world beyond the walls of Boston; caring for Joel, trying to save his life, dealing with infected and hunters. She's still Ellie, but no longer sheltered in school. IMO, choosing to flash between those two points was good writing and a good sendoff to The Last of Us.
