Third person shooters Vs first person

I don't know about you guys, but i really prefer third person shooters. I just find it too unreal to see a pair of stiff arms in front of me when i'm playing. I like to see the movement of the character climbing a wall or such. For example, Splinter Cell. I just love the job they did with the body movements in those games. Very real. What do you guys think?

Both are OK depending on the game I guess.
For eg I could'nt imagine playong BF or CoD in 3rd person view really.

Agree 100% games like uncharted and tlou would lose a bit for me being fps
I think that both styles have their place.

I think there's room for both in games. Everyone has a preference, but I think the gaming landscape is better for having many different options.

Personally, I'm happy for the indie comeback of the isometric view. I missed those old RPGs.

Outside the last of us...I have not played any Third Person Shooter in at least two years. I think before that I played James Bond Blood stone, that was in third person.

I like third person but I do prefer first person.

However that could change with plants vs zombies: GW

i like third person shooter in stealth based games like splinter cell and the new hitman game but with constant action games definitely go first person.

I just think first person shooters don't look as real as third person. The stiff arms sticking out just takes the realism away. I remember i got stuck in the firtst Black Ops because i had to jump some bridge and i couldn't figure out where exactly the edge was because you can't even see your feet. I think third person gives you a better perspective.

I'm personally exhausted on the FPS genre, I sometimes like playing em but if it's a choice between an fps and a TPS I would almost always pick the TPS these days..

I haven't played many other third person shooters past the first few Tomb Raider games, but I honestly prefer those more than first person although I do realize they aren't the same thing. I just have much more internet in seeing the character and it's the same for me when it comes to racing games as well.

I agree with the op. I like seeing the character moving and actions shown like climbing etc. But some games work with 1st person shooter best.

Personally, I'm not into shooting games. I think it's one genre which has been absolutely flooded over the last five or six years. To me, it seems that more than two thirds of games out there now are some sort of shooter or war game - or both... I'm totally bored with them and it's one reason why I've taken a bit of a 'back seat' from console gaming over the last few years.

If I had to choose between first person and third person, it would have to be third person. I find first person variants need quite a distinct level of accuracy and personally speaking, I simply don't have that precise level of skill on the analogue/dualshock sticks (unlike many others) no matter how hard I try. I'm useless - especially when it comes to precision shooting. I'll hit just about everywhere around what I'm actually trying to aim for. Third person shooters seem slightly more forgiving in that respect, but then again I come from a background of playing Tomb Raider and Resident Evil to fine-tune those skills.

Depends on the game really. But I really like both. The way I judge whether I like my game to be on the third person or the first is when character customization is involved. I want to see my customized character so third person is the way to go.

I too prefer third person than first person. The reason is that I like seeing the character I'm playing on screen as opposed to just the hands and weapon. I also feel that cover mechanics works better on third person view. I play first person games too and like it especially those with animations like climbing, and vaulting over covers.
