Dead Space 3

I'm not one much for reviews but I figured I'd help in this instance. This month's big PS3 PS+ game is Dead Space 3. Dead Space 3 is a supposedly TPS horror action game, but does it live up to it's expectations?

I'm gonna review this in categories so you can get a clearer picture of it all.

Story: Not to start off on a negative note but, this game has the worst story of any game I have ever played. The story is so poorly written and boring and extremely forgettable. Half way though the game I forgot my character's name. The missions and cut-scenes just didn't flow. The acting and dialogue didn't create any suspense at all. It's almost like a Halo-Killzone cross ripoff.

Graphics: It's hard for me to review the graphics because it's hard to not compare to next gen. The graphics aren't that great in my opinion. Killzone 3 had better graphics (as a way to explain).

Audio: The audio is okay as well. It's not bad but it's not BF4.

Co-op: The co-op is decent. It's fun just to play the campaign with a friend just to mess around and fight monsters. But the problem with the campaign is there's no direction. It's not a clear cut "go this way and do this" game. It half way presents the objective and never really says where to go. You end up back-tracking and getting lost in the process.

Scare: I was told Dead Space games were scary, and that Dead Space 3 wasn't as scary but still maintained the scare. I guess I got my hopes up but I was looking for a Outlast-jumpy, Silent hill-creepy, space game. To be honest, the game never scared me once. I've been told Dead Space 2 has better scares.

Gameplay: The game is third person (like Gears of War). The gameplay needs work to be honest. The shooting and reloading needs adjusted a little. It just doesn't feel finished. The game also has a weapon crafting bench where you can create weapons from parts you found. Sounds cool but it doesn't seamlessly fit together. The crafting system is a little confusing and doesn't compliment the rest of the game that well.

Overall: The game was hyped about for many months after the announcement. Dead Space 2 was a hit among many and Dead Space 3 was thought to become another hit. Sadly, this isn't the case. EA has shied away from Dead Space's roots and gone for the wrong target. The game really needed another year of development, either that or a complete overhaul. My recommendation is to play Dead Space 1 or 2, better gameplay, story, and scares.

My score: 4.9/10
