Titan's PSA of the Day: Don't spill beer on your controller

Titan

Sniper Kitten
So I have a customized Cinch controller. I sent mine in about 2-3 years ago to get customized. It's great! Extra buttons for X and O, trigger stops and a grip on the back that even the sweatiest of palms won't lose grip. Now, like many gamers, I like to enjoy a beer sometimes while blasting away the enemies of earth. Well, while playing Destiny 2, I might have over zealously filled my glass. Waiting for a respawn after a failed attack on Fallen enemies, I quickly grabbed the glass for a quick gulp. Well, being a bit overfilled, a nice sized splash fell on top of the D-pad and touch pad. Wiped it off with my sweatshirt quickly and got back to it. No harm no foul. It happens. All worked as it should. The next day, excited to get back to blasting away, I noticed the D-pad was sticking and the touch pad would barely go down. Being I was drinking an IPA, the extra hops dried and gummed up the works. Had I drank a pilsner, would I have this problem? Perhaps. But perhaps not. Disappointingly, I had to switch to my backup controller. It was such a naked feeling. I felt like those dreams where you're sitting in class in your underwear; awkward and not sure what to do.

So what to do with the controller? For over 100 bucks to get the work done, I couldn't merely just buy a new one. After all, we've been through a lot. We've slayed many enemies together, been on many adventures. I had no choice. I had to open her up to clean her and bring my baby back to its former glory.

After much time disassembling it and working around the custom work which made it much more difficult, I found globs of dried beer on the D-pad and touch screen. Gingerly taking each individual plastic and rubber component out and cleaning it with a Q-Tip and cup of water, I cleaned it all out. Waited some time for the components to dry and reassembled. She is now back to life working perfectly waiting for the next adventure.

Moral of the story: Don't spill beer on your controller. You'll spend a couple hours cleaning it out :)

Thanks for the Public Service Announcement! :D

Next time, take a sip of your cup of beer (if it is full) before playing and deciding to drink and game at the same time.

I drink beer and play games, too.

I normally put a can in a pint glass. There's plenty of room on the top. That night I decided I wanted to put it in a mug and filled it to the brim. I grabbed it too fast and well, my post speaks for itself
