What were the shortcomings of the PSVita when compared to the PSP?

Good day, gamers!

I'm not in the mood to go all fancy today so I'll skip the fancy introductions. Today, I have a question for you guys. This is question that I prefer answered by people who owns a Playstation Portable (PSP) and a PSVita since I will be asking them to compare the two devices. If you don't own a PSP/PSVita, you may still answer as long as you have an extensive amount of knowledge about the two portable consoles.

Without further ado, my question. Compared to the PSP, what were the shortcomings/weaknesses of the PSVita? I would like to know, simply put, what made the PSP better than the PSVita. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks!

I personally feel that the biggest weakness was the short battery life of the Vita. I don't really remember the exact life of the Vita but if I'm not wrong, it was comparable if not less than the PSP. To me, a handheld console should be able to be played for long periods of time, like 4-5.5 hours per charge. Another weakness I would feel is the range of games available for the Vita. At its peak, PSP had a great lineup of games, with many in the make to be released whereas for Vita, there was more porting of previous PSP games to the Vita rather than creating new games that were made for the Vita.

- Proprietary memory cards (seriously, 100$ for a 32gb card? What the hell, Sony!)
- Lacking in the game department
- Sony still didn't "accidentally" leaked the master key so that the system can be cracked

If Sony wants to suddenly have a burst in sales they should either:
- Leak the master key so that hackers can crack the system and everyone can now play everything in the best handheld ever made.
- Lower the price of the memory cards, the system, or both!

I highly agree on these statements. The cards for the games are too damn expensive, as we speak. It's either they leak the master key accidentally or they lower the price tag to make it more affordable for unlucky gamers like me.

How about the name? Vita? Not appealing or attractive or catchy. PSP works. It's short, cool, user friendly, net friendly, and techie. Sometimes it's all in a name.

You actually have a point. Vita sounds cool and all, but it's not that attractive to the ear. "Hey mate, you wanna play with my PSP?" is always better than, "Hey mate, you wanna play with my Vita?" It sounds awkward, come to think of it.

Though the Vita has a lot of quality games, I agree that it is still lacking in games when compared to that of the 3DS. With regards to the master key, I have mixed feelings with that one. In the point of view of a gamer, I like it. But what would be the implications to the game developers? I think we should take a look at both sides of the coin first.

Both the PS Vita and the PSP lacked an extensive game library. Some people would probably like the different kinds of games offered for each platform, but when I had my PSP I never owned more than 2 or 3 games total. Compare that to the dozens of games I buy for standard consoles (and the dozens more I'd like to play eventually but haven't gotten to), and you'll find it difficult to justify paying $200 (or what have you, depends on when/where you buy it) for a platform you barely use.
