Who is guilty of modifying their PS1?

You know what? I'm guilty of having my PS1 modified in order to play pirated games and imports. My friends had theirs modified so I got mine modified as well. I actually benefited from it since I was able to play pirated games which were much cheaper than originals. Okay, I know that this is illegal but hey, I was just in my early teens back then. I also did not have much money to purchase originals so I had no choice. Is there anybody else guilty of modifying their PS1 consoles?

Modifying a PS1 or any console for that matter is no different from jailbreaking an iPhone nowadays. I mean, you mod the console so you can remove the limitations on the PS1 and enable you to play games which were unplayable prior to your modifications. I'll freely admit that I had to modify my PS1 if it means I can play any games, be it imported or pirated. The only drawback is that over time, the CD reader will eventually wear out and stop functioning.

I did get my PS1 chipped to play knock off games. It never served me much purpose though because the cheap games rarely ever worked. Some were in black and white, others crashed half way through, and some just didn't play at all.

Yeah, I noticed that the CD reader deteriorated a little faster that the Playstations that were not modded. I also noticed that a modded PS1 would more often than not scratch the disks that were being played. Still, I had benefited a lot from modding my PS1. I was able to play a lot of games at very cheap prices. I even got to play the banned game Thrill Kill! I wonder... Can the PS4 be modded too? Lol.

My ps1 was soft modded so I never really was able to get caught it was hilarious how it was done.
All it consisted of was a spring to hold open the lid but hold down the button which made the PS1 think it was closed and a boot up disc,once the boot up disc had finished loading it would stop spinning from there you put in the "back up" and press X job done worked beautifully.
saved me a fortune when I was younger.

I never managed to do it. I had a friend who did it, but he didn't had many ways to get new games, so it came out flat down. Even though, i remember being really impressed with it at the time, when the internet was a luxury.

I played my PS One when I was too young to know better. My parents had it chipped so that they could play games that my relatives bought for me overseas. I just assumed the chip was because of region differences and that video games were much, much cheaper overseas. It worked out pretty well for me since I got to play huge amounts of video games, and a lot of niche games I might not have gotten in North America (The Japanese Rockman series, Tomba, etc.)

Wow, I wish I had thought of modding my PS1 when I was younger. I didn't know/care enough about these things back then, I guess. Although it is still in my basement...
