Wii U no longer being stocked by UK retailer Asda | Joystiq

As if things couldn't get any worse for Nintendo when it came to the Wii U, a large blow has just been dealt . Major UK retailer Asda has announced that they will no longer be selling the Wii U in stores. This means that the Wii U just lost 555 sales locations. Asda stated that they will now only sale Wii U games online by a case by case basis. Hopefully Nintendo can turn things around before it's too late.

As bad as that is, I won't call doom and gloom on the Wii U just yet. But I must admit, because as bad as the Vita is selling, at least everyone is still stocking it to sell. I won't sit here and say Nintendo needs Mario Kart or things like that because no one or two "big" games will make a difference.

But the problem here is Nintendo got lucky with the original Wii and bet wrong on it translating over to the Wii U. And their in a hard spot because most of the third parties aren't giving them much of a shot. The tablet controller that could have been a boon is becoming a bane/ novelty.

I don't really blame them, it's no longer profitable , and it never really was in the first place. Currently, Amazon offers the best prices in the UK and it's just more convenient for people to get it from there rather than anywhere else. It's not necessarily bad, because the sales of the Wii U are actually going up, after the price drop the Wii U overtook the Xbox 360 and the PS3 in sales by something like 700%, but all of those sales were on Amazon , so Asda is just one retailer that wasn't doing so great in the first place.
