Will Apple ever make a game console?

Rumors about Apple launching their own game console have been floating around the web for a few years. I've recently read that Apple is planning to release TV sets sometimes in the next couple of years. I wonder if Tim Cook has any plans to involve the company in the gaming business... You know, just to have one more area in which to compete with Microsoft...

I don't know, I never really considered it. I don't see why not but I think they would have to come out with something fantastic and innovative. There are already so many established consoles to compete with.

I have heard about the Apple tv sets, too. I am not sure if Apple would ever make a console, but I am interested in thinking about what it would be like. I am not sure an Apple console, would ever come into play, because like Jenny said, there is just too much well established competion.

I don't know. I think iPhone's are their consoles in a way. If you liken apps to games then they are in the gaming business.

I don't know- I think Apple should stay out of the video game business. You can just imagine how much an Apple game console would cost. They charge you 300 dollars for an ipod, how much will they ask for a console.

I thought they did at one time, was called the Pippin or something like that.

X360 graphics
nintendo 64 gamepad
Cool and pretty aluminium design
retail price $900

They did and it was one of the worst consoles ever designed.

I do not think they will ever make a stand alone console. What they already have is AppleTV. Some games are great when streamed to it. I have a racing game, that when air playing to my tv, the iPhone/iPad become the controller. I can see where I am on the map, speed, etc. But on the TV I see the game and the graphics are pretty decent considering they are coming from an iPhone.

I doubt it, that ship left the dock years ago. I figure that they'll probably be moving more in the direction of home appliances, since it's easy to barge into that market whenever you want. Nobody wants to start making games for another platform, and you can imagine with the way Apple is about making new applications, no developer wants an iMac just so they can make a new game...
