Microsoft has confirmed that it will be offering cheaper digital games for Xbox One on a trial basis. Ryse: Son of Rome will be the first title on sale at the lower price of $39.99, with the discount running between February 18 and 24.

"Lot of people asked for better deals on our digital marketplace, so we're testing some," Microsoft studio manager Mike Ybarra wrote on Twitter. "That's far better than the used price at GameStop and others! Go digital!"

Ybarra went on to say that he is "99.9%" sure that the promotion will be launched in the UK, where select digital titles are expected to be offered at £29.99 under the terms of the trial. A further trial on discounted add-on content will be launched next week.

Wow, well if this works well for M$, I doubt it won't be too long before Sony follows suit. Personally, I don't mind if the game is digital or not, and I'd prefer to get it cheaper if this is the way forward.

@Obsidian

Microsoft won't offer their gamers the ability to have 1080p....so they'll offer cheaper games. Maybe they are doing this so they can actually shift the games lol.

To be honest though the prices for digital games actually cost more to physically buy the disk. I think this is wrong.
