I do, have myself a yzfr15 until my full licence bestows itself upon me, then i shall be upgrading to to a kawa Versys or V-strom 650

My brother currently has a '79 BMW R100RS,bought it a few years back cause he always wanted one in his younger days..lol

Ah cool, knew I wasn't ha. But it's good to see people on two wheels. I myself have a '12 Yamaha R1 while my girlfriend occasionally rides her Ducati 1198. Both are great bikes and they make for some fun times on the road heh.

Considering getting the new cb500x touring by honda. Looks good and cheap. Max speed of about 180kph, which I'll never need and only weighs 191kg I think

Argh...That Honda is one of those bikes that doesnt know what its wants to be.its defo not touring though.
They call it 'Adventure Touring' but meh...no offense Mudgee but its pretty ugly,Ive never been a fan of those though.

Actually if you want a 'proper' touring bike for a cheap price check out the new CF Moto TR650.Dont be put of because its Chinese,Ive read some tests and they come up very favourable.
They are only about AUD $7500-8000 ride away in AUS.

Another biker here and now riding a new 2015 BMW R1200GSA which replaced my old 2010 GSA and the 2006 before it.



Fully loaded with every bell and whistle, keyless, abs, tsc, cruise control, heated grips, LED headlight and fog lights, Gear shift assist pro, all panniers, BMW Nav V, wonder wheel for controlling the Nav... maybe missing something but it has everything BMW had to offer for that year.

Just so you all know, your bikes do not exist if they don't have pics! Post em up lets see your rides!

The only one with servos was my '06 GS. I just brought that in for regular maintenance, so it was done whenever the manual said it needed to be done.

The only real maintenance I do myself are the oil changes. BMW moved away from the servo breaks in '07 I believe, there was a lot of issues, though I never had any in 50,000 kms. One of the best thing about the BMW bikes are the brakes, so powerful and I love ABS, would not buy a bike without it. I love the linked brakes as well.

Well my RT has the full linked brakes with front lever and pedal both applying pressure.
But I much prefer what they are doing now,partial linked,thats better,where the front lever applies pressure to both ends and the pedel applies the back only,that makes much more sense.
I dont mind the power brakes,I know some love them and some hate them,just takes a little to get used to as they can feel 'bitey' and braking smooth when going slow and coming to stop just takes a bit of practice.

Well,the manual I believe does say the servo brakes need to be done every year.
I think it may depend on where you live too,very humid areas maybe.
Some say every year is overkill and every 2 years may be fine.

As for mine,well I bought the bike last December so dunno when the previous owner done it so Im actually getting it done on Friday.
Was gonna take it to a BMW dealer but they quoted me about AUD $350.
But I found a shop closer to me that says they've done them before and can do it for about AUD $120,perhaps a little more.
Anyway,that will save me a packet.

Hmm,I think maybe every 18 months may be the OK number then.

As for the servo brakes having issues and failing,well I know it happens but then regular maintenance should keep them in OK,I think people not doing this is regularly may be a big factor in any fails.

I think that is how all linked brakes work no? I know with all 3 of the GS's I have had over the years they were that way. I use the hand brake and it does both, or I can choose to just use the rear with my foot. On my 2015, depending on the mode also changes the brakes. I think if I am in enduro mode the brakes are not longer linked.

I remember loving the brakes on my '06 GS, they were so powerful and no matter how much you pulled, it just stopped and never locked up. Was coming from a 2002 Honda CB919 which is basically a typewriter in comparison tech wise to the GS.

AFAIK the older models or perhaps model dependant at the time had linked brakes like mine where front lever AND pedal does both.
However the foot pedal needs more pressure for same effect so it makes sense using that for slow stops,not as abrupt.
Partial linked like yours is better yeah.

not sure if that was ever on the GS models. You could just use the rear with your foot, but you could not just use the front. Hand brake was linked so used front and rear brakes, not sure what percentage they used, I think more pressure was put on the front brakes then the rear.

I wondered about that too but from what Ive read it actually depends on what your wheels are doing,so percentage braking on front and rear varies on any current condition,it's not always the same.

Beautiful bike and great riding area! Passed through Vermont a few times. Might be heading through again this summer, working on a trip with some friends up to Mt. Washington so would pass through the Adirondacks, take a ferry cross Lake Champlain and keep heading East.

Sport touring huh? Well my R1150RT is is often referred to as sport touring as well but really..I would class it ..and the FJR as touring bikes,I think most here where I am in AUS would too.

Take the panniers and top boxed and off and we sport touring right?
