Doa 5

Regardless of how much I love the Tekken series, we can't deny the fact that Dead or Alive is still a pretty good game. I don't have DOA 5 on the PS3 but I was able to borrow my friend's copy a couple of times. It's pretty good. And I must admit, the girls of DOA are hotter than the girls in Tekken. Could it be because of their huge bouncy bouncies? I dunno. Maybe...

For those not acquainted with the game, here's a video review from IGN:

I have been a tekken fan ever since I have started playing that game. I was a champ in Tekken 3 and knew every combo of every player. I was never into other fighting series other than Street Fighter. So, I couldn't get to play DOA series. I thought it was inclined a bit more towards sexism than it should be.

Lol. Yeah, the developers really have a tendency to overly sexualize the female characters in the game. And as you would notice, the game looks extremely pretty. But it's not all glitz and glamour. The gameplay is rock solid as well. You have to try it sometime.

I played a lot of DOA3 and DOA4. I could not get into DOA5 as much as I had hoped because the counter-system is tampered with in a way that I do not like. Unless they somehow changed that, or I am remembering something incorrectly. Nevertheless it is a great game and does a lot of unique things for the franchise, I just did not/do not have the patience to learn unnecessary modifications to a system I had known and mastered for so many years.

If you say so lol. I ma going to give it a go at my friend's place. He has it, I think. If he doesn't has the game, I will have to buy it.

I know what you mean. Mastering the fighting system of one versus game is one heck of a difficult task to do. Then here comes this new game with a few new tweaks here and there and all that you mastered gets thrown out of the window in a jiffy. All that hard work you put in, set aside just like that. It's really quite frustrating. :D

I downloaded the free to play version recently, but didn't try it yet. I'm quite reluctant to start playing 3D fighting games, since I never really liked them on a competitive level, and I'm afraid it's gonna be too hard to jump into anyway, after being used to fundamentals of 2D fighters.. I have VF5FS as well, but.. same thing. How hard is DOA5 system-wise, for someone that never really played a 3D fighter seriously?

It's like any other fighting game, with it's rock-paper-scissor metagame, but DOA5 is more vocal about it and focus really hard on that.

But yeah, i played some of it when it was on PSN Plus and had fun, will be getting DOA5U soon.

Well, that's the thing, I never really played any 3D fighting game seriously, as I said. :) So I have no idea how hard is it to get into it, hell, I don't even understand the basic fundamentals, haha. It doesn't even seem the game has a BnB, all footage I've seen so far just ofcused on different combos from different situations, which is.. pretty hard for someone just coming in. :D

You can start with some button mashing skills and build on that.

I was a button masher too. I didn't know any combos. I just spammed punches and kicks until I got to know the ropes. This is also the same with Dead or Alive and any other fighting game. :D

Eh, meh. When I play a game I actually want to know how it works. I'm not only talking combos here, those are easy enough, but fundamentals and understanding 3D fighting at a competitive level.. you can't really begin with just button mashing if you want to learn all that. :)
