Sony reveals 11 PlayStation 4 Apps Available At Launch

Sony has decided to let us all in on what apps will be available at launch. Some of the same apps that can be found on the ps3 are here but at least we got the necessities on this one. Those included on the list are amazon, netflix, and Hulu Plus. Wonder what other apps Sony has up their sleeve for launch. Others on the list include Crackle, vudu, NHL gamecenter, Crunchyroll, NBA Game Time, redbox instant, epix, and Yupp TV. I'm pretty excited for amazon and netflix. Never really got into the other ones.

Right from day one, you'll also be able to access Hulu Plus, Crackle, NHL GameCenter LIVE, Epix, NBA Game Time, Crunchyroll, Vudu and, well, Yupp TV -- for all your Indian drama needs.

I'm not fond of Hulu plus at all. I had a 2 week trial or something recently, and their lack of content is pretty staggering. The worst part is that, even with a paid subscription (or trial), they still play commercials. And not just a few; a TON of commercials. Supposedly they're planning on eliminating that, but I really see no reason to use them over Netflix or even Redbox instant. Although honestly I tried the latter and wasn't impressed, either. Still, at least there's some selection there from the get-go.

Applications are advertised well enough to satisfy me. But the question remains .... Where is Youtube?!!

I am glad that Crunchyroll will be back on PS3, because I love this application. Then Netflix has become a must for watching movies.

This is correct,with microsoft Xbone EVERYTHING is behind the paywall (AFAIK). Including so called free to play games,which is not always the case on PS4,some F2P games do not require PS+ either.

Cool applications, I'm probably use Netflix or Hulu the most just to see series and movies.
I'll probably check the amazon one too.

Those apps are cool, but they were very predictable. I will be using Netflix the most, and that is without a doubt.

I think those are great apps to launch a console with because the necessities they offered mirror those that would come with the purchase of a smart TV. Once again, this helps Sony sway the average consumer in terms of value. Why spend roughly 500-600+ dollars on a smart tv when you can keep your regular HDTV and still have access to all of the essential applications that on would looking for in purchasing the aforementioned Smart TV.

I'm glad that they'll have Netflix and Amazon the first day. I have Amazon Prime but I haven't actually been trying it out on the Playstation yet. I feel like when I go pick up the PS4 I should check out the Amazon app and see what they have. I'm actually surprised that the Youtube app isn't listed here. I would have thought that one would be a given.

I'm not really excited about anything else besides Netflix and Amazon out of the lot, but it's nice to see that they'll be ready on launch. Afaik Netflix doesn't require PSN+ either, hopefully it'll be the same with the rest.

The apps are a cool bonus, and it's great that they'll be available upon launch but I'm not sure how much I'll us them. I'm interested in some of the features but I've never been one to really use all the functions on my consoles. But I like that Crackle and Vudu are on working as for everything else, I could pass on it.

Redbox instant looks awesome, Hulu and Netflix, that's all I really need. I'm a tv show/movie junkie, wife and I both are.

I'm liking the Amazon app, most of the other things I probably wouldn't get use out of. Despite that, it's great that you can use these out of the box. No...already having to pay for internet service then paying for the console's service so you do stuff you should be able to do already in addition to paying for that service to use it.

Nothing really, it's just another app. I just use Amazon a lot (holiday shopping coming up, stuff for myself, and general window shopping ). There's nothing special about that you couldn't do on your phone or browser, it's just for doing that through the PS4.

Apps are always a nice bonus but not what I buy consoles for. I'm just glad that it's not the highlight of the PS4 and not what their focusing on. I'm probably going to use some of these apps if I'm in front of the TV but not that often since I really just use this stuff on my computer.

I'd chalk these up as a nice bonus as well. If I didn't have them it wouldn't be a huge loss since I mainly use these features on the computer. They're nice if I just don't want to turn my head to look at the laptop or something.

If I'm already in my living room and away from my laptop then sure I'll probably use one or two of these apps. But there not really for everyday use in my mind. Most gamers won't really use these apps that often but I've got relatives who might when they come over. It's mostly to appeal to the casual but it's always an appreciated feature as long as they don't interfere with games.

Hulu Plus has a crapload of NEWER tv shows with up to date shows. It doesn't have all the shows but it has good ones like Castle and you get to watch it the morning after it originally airs. Netflix is great for various movies and it does have tv shows galore but not the newest stuff.

Oh ok man, thanks for that. I think I'll get both of them, I had a trial of netflix a few months back and someone told me they updated their look and feel. Maybe fixed the quality issues?
