What Made You Choose PS3 Over Xbox 360?

Back in the heydays of Sega and Nintendo, games were truly exclusive to each console. Nowadays, both Xbox and PS3 seem to share majority of the titles, and there are only a few games that are exclusive to each. So what made you choose one over the other, given that they both seem to share pretty much the same games? What about the PS3 made you prefer it to the Xbox 360?

Me, I prefer the interface of the PS3, since I'm so used to it from playing PSP so much. Not to mention, I am much more used to its controller as well, since I've been playing on Playstation exclusively ever since the PS1. Although I have to say, I still prefer having six buttons in front and two on top like in the old days (Sega Saturn & Sega Genesis 2nd version controller), but the dual shock does its job relatively well for me, and is much more comfortable than the Xbox controller as well, personally.

- Free online network (how is this even a thing, Microsoft really dropped the ball with this one)
- PSN Plus (for the same or even less than the Xbox Live Gold membership, i get free games and discounts!)
- Nice interface
- Sony's IPs

Although I do have an xbox, I have a ps3 as well which I play more than the xbox.
free online network is probably a big PLUS for me.

The online network being free was really a draw for me. If I'm already paying for the system, do I really have to pay monthly to be able to play the online features which are built into my games? XBOX may have some great games, but most of them I can get for the PS3 anyways, and I don't have to pay for their silly online service.

Many of the games that are available for Playstation 3 exclusively really interested me too, and that influenced my purchase. There just aren't games like Heavy Rain, Infamous, or LittleBigPlanet over on the Xbox.

Finally, I've always been a Playstation fangirl. I've been loyal to them (and Nintendo, but they don't really compete) since the PS1, and it just made sense for me to buy a PS3 instead of an Xbox. That isn't to say that I won't own an Xbox one day, but if it comes between owning one or the other, it's Playstation all the way for me.

I chose PS3 because first of all I have always had a PlayStation ever since getting the PS One as a kid. I then got the PS2, and so naturally I was going to get the PS3 over Xbox! I did wonder if Xbox would be better because some of the games looked awesome. My sister ending up getting one though, and so I was able to play games at hers and have a PS3 for myself, so I guess that's the best of both worlds

Free online network, internet browser, better exclusives, no-battery controllers. I just like the smoothness of the operation too.

PS3 was just better in my opinion. I actually own both consoles and I prefer Sony over MS in different spectrum. The free only network was a big draw for me.

I think it just performs much better than the 360. I think the Home feature though needs a big overhaul and made more simplistic.

Ditto. I like the exclusives on the Xbox like Gears of War and Halo and DOA. But, as great as these Xbox exclusives are, the PS3 has more of them with the likes of God of War, Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, Ratchet and Clank, etc. All of these exclusives are top notch games. I have both systems but when it comes to exclusives, I'd definitely go with the PS3. It has more variety.

I chose PS3 because I always had a playstation when i was growing up. Had a playstation 1 and 2. So figured why not get a PS3

I started my gaming journey on a Playstation. So, it was only right to continue in the same path. No, honestly - it was the pad for me. These other games have funny pads that just don't capture the gaming experience, but the Playstation pad is awesome and cannot be compared to any other.

More exclusives, I trust Sony more, better overall system, and many of the people I knew had the system, so it was very ideal for me.

I could never choose one over the other, even back in the day of the original Xbox and the PS2. I kind of preferred the PS2 because I'm a fan of RPGs and there were plenty of exclusive RPG titles for the PS2. Nowadays I only prefer each console when there's an exclusive, but I use my PS3 for fighting games and my Xbox 360 for first-person shooters. I don't think I could choose one over the other, but I do agree that the free online service on the PS3 is a huge plus.

They really just have the absolute best exclusive titles. The 360 is better for multiplayer in my opinion (me being a massive Halo fan doesn't really make me objective on this) but the PS3 destroys the 360 when it comes to single player games and the overall quality of their exclusive titles.

For me it was a mixture of things. For one there are some amazing exclusive titles on the Playstation. I really enjoy the God of War
series and Little Big Planet. There's also some others I've been meaning to play but haven't yet such as Uncharted. Also I had a few
friends with Xbox's who had had nothing but trouble with their consoles. Many got the "reg ring", some only after a couple of months
of owning the console. I've never had anything wrong with my PS3 and never heard anyone else have trouble either. Also it seems to
cope better with frame rate than the Xbox.

Free. Online. Enough said. This alone is a HUGE bonus for the system. The rest is icing on the cake. When I was very young and was first introduced to video games, I used to play on the Playstation 1 with my uncle. He was a gamer back then and a fan of Tekken, so we always played each other and it's what got me to fall in love with gaming. This made me always try to get the newest system. They're always sleek and sexy too, since the PS2. I'm an aesthetics person and they always make me feel cool to own . Besides that, the interface is good, runs smooth, and has some great game titles.

Yeah, the free online was definitely first and foremost in my mind when choosing. Why ever pay for something that is essentially free? And my online is crappy anyway because of a tenuous internet connection, so there was that. Other than that, Microsoft is like the big evil force out in the tech world. I'm not a fan of a lot of their stuff anyway, so that did have an effect, silly as that may seem. Although seeing what they are planning with XBox One, maybe it isn't so silly after all...

Definitely the single player experience. The Xbox is more for games like Halo and Call of Duty, which don't really appeal to me because they get repetitive and I don't have many friends that play first person shooters. I feel that the PS3 carries titles with better storylines and I'm interested in JRPGs in generals, with the Metal Gear Solid series, Disgaea, Ni No Kuni and others. Overall it was a pretty easy choice. I also agree with the point about paying for online.

PS3 had a better selection games in my opinion, it was cheaper, and no paying for online. I can't tell you how annoying it is. I've always liked the general set up of a Ps3 better.

I've traditionally chosen Xbox over PlayStation, but I still don't really prefer one over the other. When the PS3 was first released, it was absurdly overpriced. The Xbox 360 was overpriced too, but not quite as much. The first console I really got into was the PS1, though, so there's some sentimental value in the PlayStation series of consoles for me.
