In a couple of months I intend to buy a PS3. What games would you recommend?

I've wanted a PS3 for a long time, but have never been able to due to having either no time, no money or a combination of the two. Fortunately, at the end of January next year I'll have some spare time, as well as spare money, so I can finally get one.

I already have a (somewhat lengthy) list of games I'd like to get, some of which include Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo 5, the 'Tales of' games, Ni No Kuni and a handful of others that are evading me right now. I'm pretty big on (J)RPGs, which the PS3 has a surprisingly large number of - what have I missed off? And of course, any other games that you'd consider 'must-haves' are also welcome, since I'm open to trying new things. Bear in mind that I have a 360, so most multiplats aren't worth mentioning (since I'll have either played them already, or not had any interest to begin with).

There are so many options when it comes to RPG's on the PlayStation 3 that is really hard to just recommend one. I'm really into Skyrim and Final Fantasy(although both or multi-platform). If you do a google search for "PS3 rpg exclusive" tons of lists will come up with a large amount of rpg's. That should help you along with choosing new games. Apart from that I would really like to recommend Beyond: Two soles. It is such a great game! I'm pretty sure it's a PS3 exclusive too.

Although your post did remind of something else I did mean to ask - what is the selection of PS1/PS2 games like? I'd quite like to get a chance to play some of the Final Fantasy games that I've missed out, as well as another chance to play the ones that I've already played. Is there a list of downloadable games? I'm in the UK if that makes a difference - I imagine some games are region-specific.

MGS4 was the only reason I bought my PS3. I paid $500 for it at the time and that game made it worth every penny.

Demon's Souls, Yakuza, Tokyo Jungle... all good in their own crazy ways, all exclusive. I'm trying to suggest less popular games, of course, games you might have not heard about (doubtful that Demon's Souls is too obscure by now, considering how popular the franchise has become, but still suggesting it). You don't need me to tell you to get the big exclusives like Killzone, Resistance, Heavy Rain and Uncharted, right?

It's never too late to get one you know. The answer to what games you should get is simple: the PS3 exclusive titles. The Last of Us is one of them, it earned the Game of the Year award and trust me when I say that it's exactly what it deserves.

Yeah my bad. Ha. Well I would go for the iconic PS exclusives. God of War comes to mind. And you can grab all of them relatively cheap these days. Aside from that, as The Unlosing Ranger said, Killzone and Uncharted would be highly recommended.

Final Fantasy V through IX, and Vagrant Story? That's a few hundred hours already, and with the exception of FFVII I haven't played any of those yet.

The PS2 selection doesn't look so good though, which is a shame. There is Persona 3, another game I've been meaning to get for a while, so that's something, but I kind of hoped for a chance to play FFX and FFXII again.

Well there's Dark Souls which is technically a multiplat, but is still one of the best games I have played in a long time. If you enjoy Dark Souls then you can get the PS3-exclusive Demons Souls, which is basically Dark Souls' prequel, sort of.

I'd also recommend MGS4 if you're a fan of the series and you've played the previous games (if not pick up the HD collection and MGS1 from PSN).
