Spyro the Dragon vs Crash Bandicoot

Okay, so I did a Crash Bandicoot vs Jak and Daxter thread but Crash is beating the hell out of Jak because it seems that not a lot of people know Jak. Okay, wait for it... You Don't Know Jak!

Yeah, that was lame. So anyway, I got to thinking, why not make a thread that pits two beloved PS1 games against each other - Spyro the Dragon vs Crahs Bandicoot. Both have cute and cuddly characters, great level design and fun gameplay. Which game do you think comes out on top?

Crash Bandicoot gets the slight edge in my opinion. It was one of the first games i ever got. I also like the characters a little better than Spyro the Dragon. Both games were awesome in my opinion.

I like Spyro the best. I have almost all the games in this series and I love the characters more. I have also played Spyro more than Crash. Don't get me wrong both games are good, but Spyro got the most gameplay from me. So I think the cute purple dragon is the best.

I played both games as a kid. I would have to side with Crash because I could actually beat it as a child. I always got tuck in Spyro. I'm sure it wasn't hard, I was just not very good at games as a kid.

Hmm. I liked Spyro 2 and Spyro 3 more than the Crash games - except for Crash Team Racing. CTR tips the scale for Crash for me. As far as the characters themselves? I'd say Spyro would win because he can breath fire, and Crash can... spin

Haha. Well yes, Spyro can wreak havoc with fire but crash has some different moves and equipment up his sleeve too aside from spinning. He can do a belly flop too:

And he also has a bazooka:

Crash had much better spin-off titles by comparison (did Spyro actually have any?) but I'd say Spyro was probably better. The style of gameplay was much more up my street in terms of open world-esque areas and collectibles, whereas Crash always felt limited in that sense.

On spin-off titles though, Crash Bandicoot had Crash Bash, which is probably my all-time favourite PS1 game, with only competition from FFVII and Digimon World.

Both are fantastic series however; it's a shame that both of them seem to have died off.

Although I also like crash, I played way more Spyro games on my Playstation2!
So i'll have to pick Spyro on this one! :)

Spyro, all the way! What's not to love about a purple dragon!?

Spyro was definitely a part of my childhood. I still remember some of the weird dreams I had where Spyro was my pet!

That is a pretty tough choice because I really loved playing both games seeing as they were quite uniqe and interesting. If I had to choose one to play I would probably stick with Spyro simply because I enjoyed jumping and floating around as a dragon more than as Crash, though while some of the newer Spyro's were kind of dumb I did enjoy the Crash on the Wii that allowed you to take control of monster and what not.

I enjoyed playing Crash as a kid but my vote would go to Spyro. I've played most of the games (including the newer ones which weren't that great) but I've only played the first and possibly the second Crash titles? I just have a lot more memories playing the Spyro games and honestly I could still go back and play them all over again since they're pretty addicting.

You cant really compare them.Very different type gameplay.Long levels vs fast levels, each game speaks story for itself.Anyway i would say Spiro because of longer levels, but when we speak about fast gameplays, crash is the best :D

I played both of them as a kid as well. I would much rather play Spyro. I don't know what it was about Spyro, but I just loved playing that game. It was so much fun to play that game back then. It was to the point where it was not even repetitive. I think if I played either of those games I would be bored out of my mind lol.

I don't even remember which one of the two I liked better as a kid but I do remembering playing Crash a lot more than Spyro. So, I guess I'll go with Crash. Spyro was still a brilliant series particularly Spyro 2 but Crash had CTR. You don't beat CTR.

Nice shout out to CTR! It may not have been Mario Kart, but it was a fun game. Then again, I was like 8 years old, so maybe that is just nostalgia blinding my judgement of that game.

Spyro. I dug the hell out of the gameplay and Spyro just had this attitude that he was too cool for this game. It was like Sonic in dragon form.

Spyro is good yes, but Crash Bandicoot is in a league of its own really. Triple the sales, quadruple the publicity received. Just a bigger game really.

Spyro. Crash was amazing but I agree, a little linear. I compare Spyro a lot to what I liked about the Mario 64 game.

I'll give it up to Spyro. That series was consistently good. Crash started going down hill once it arrived on PS2's shores.
