Command and Conquer Generals and Zero Hour

This is one of my favorite PC RTS games. I've played every C&C game from Tiberian to Red Alert and Generals, but it's the latter series that is my favorite. Unlike the Tiberian and Red Alert series, Generals is known for its music depending on the side you are in. Each side has unique tunes which you can listen to while playing. I've also read a few reviews saying that Generals, despite carrying the C&C label, isn't a true C&C game as compared to the Tiberian and Red Alert series. In that regard, I disagree. It's true that Generals starts off in an entirely separate continuity from the other two C&C universes, and while the series does not have any of the traditional C&C elements, such as the presence of Kane or a Mobile Construction Vehicle, its unique gameplay and SAGE engine gives it a new and fresh perspective that has been incorporated to the Tiberian and Red Alert series.

I love C&C Generals. I remember it as this was on of the first RTS games I ever played and was something my friend introduced to me. I would say that Generals is fun and a good game for beginners to RTS as the learning curve is not very steep. Personally my favourite is the GLA due to it's low cost and the suicide bombers. They can destroy a well-build defense in seconds. I found that C&C 4 was a huge disappointment and felt that they should have taken more elements from Generals and Zero Hour instead.

The GLA is indeed a unique faction that never relies on power for its factories, but what I like the most about the GLA is its resourcefulness, as they can make use of scrap metal from its enemies and add them to their own. In the GLA's final stage of Zero Hour, they're going against a powerful US base, but they managed to win despite them being technologically inferior. I also like the Demolitions General in ZH, as his high-powered explosives can clean out enemies without any anthrax residue, unlike the Toxin General who in my opinion is only strong against infantry and light vehicles. China is good too, as they're the Generals equivalent of the USSR in the Red Alert series with its Nuclear Missile Silo and heavy tanks.

Agree with you there, SS42A. Out of the 3, I think China is overall the most balanced. It is relatively low cost and can create units that are strong against both infantry and light vehicles. I do feel that USA was overrated in Generals because US was all about aerial advantage, which is quite easy to counter. The costs involved was also very high and the superweapon was not as powerful as the rest. But I do like what they did with Zero Hour where each faction is further subdivided into different strengths, like the US Air Force General, which was coupled with interesting add-ons like the MOAB.
