Online Or Actual Multiplayer?

I like playing 2 player games with my friends, it's not the same when I play online with strangers, and even if I am playing with friends it's different because there are no high fives or drinking together while playing.

Also, I used to hate 2 player games sometimes in the past because the view would get so small when done in split screen on those old tube videos. At least now the TV's are bigger, and controllers are wireless so they don't have to keep getting tangled with your friend's.

All I'm saying is, I prefer actual multiplayer playing, but online is fine too. Your thoughts? Which do you prefer?

Depends on the game, if I'm really good at it I always like to go online and try my skills vs "the best of the best". There are other games I play just for fun, and those are the ones I invite my friends over to play.

Yeah I agree that it's more fun playing with someone you know. I never really play online unless it's with my girlfriend.

For fighting games like Tekken and Street Fighter, I like offline multiplayer. I enjoy the presence of my friends while playing fighting games. We laugh and we shout and we drink booze. For RPGs, it's better to play online of course. Same as racing games. It's better to play online rather than split screen.

I play with my friends when I need actual voice communications, such as strategy games. It's crucial to know what the both of you are doing, and if you're just playing with a random player, it makes the game not fun because you don't actually know him. The great thing when talking to friends is that you can joke around and not harm people. If you joke around with a random person, it would just be awkward and he might feel insulted.

Local multiplayer is where it's at! All those fighting game moments, the head to head competition on racing games and the completion of a difficult mission during co-op with a friend... i miss those times where we only had that. It was something that changed both players!

I do agree with you.
Its more fun playing with a friend on multiplayer while munching those chips, waiting for the pizza and getting dizzy and nauseous with beers.

We almost do it every weekends to my place or to my friends place when we do not have somewhere else to party, unless there is a big special event that we couldnt let it passed.

Back in the days of Street fighter and Mortal Kombat it was all about sitting in the front room with a bunch of friends getting drunk/high and playing each other for bragging rights
The N64 was the best for it (remember 4 player Goldeneye anyone).
Now a days me a few of the very same friends play online COD in separate houses and it suits us as we have kids so we still have the same sort of laugh we did then.

Yeah it's not the same, as in person you can actually do something to the person that's pissing you off and beating you.

Do you punch the person that's beating you at Tekken 6 in the face? I do. Lol. Just kidding. It's great to have a person beside you when playing. It's more sociable and fun. And like you said, you could do something to him or her like screw up their vision or take away the controller. :D

Multiplayer for sure, nothing like smack talking and beating somebody right in front of you. You also get the perks of being able to pause and such.

Besides I would either be playing with friends or family and I get sick of hearing weirdos scream over the mic.

It's true that multi-player system on previous version of playstatIon and other games where nothing to right home about. The split screen on tube TV made it so archaic and you get feed up of it sooner.

With the present development rate, things are evolving very fast. Nowadays, I feel comfortable being able to play my mission games with a friend, one who has interest in such games.

I prefer the offline and we get to talk about the cut scenes and intros, likewise the walk-through and experience. The online multi-player system give small wrong for this.

I am still looking forward to a multi-player game system that enables both players to use same display and nothing like a split screen, better still, an horizontal split screen system would be crazy.
