All my PS3 Save Data have mysteriously disappeared.

Not sure what could of happened here, but a few nights back I finished up a session of Red Dead Redemption and decided to retire for the night.

Today, after being out during the morning I come back home and boot up the PS3 only to find out... all my save data is gone just like that!

Everything is gone. My digital games are still there and purchases of other items from the PS Store, but I'm talking about all my game saves.

Could anybody help me make sense of this?

I just bought it last week. It's a 500GB Super Slim. I did turn the PS3 off properly just in case you ask Really odd.

I've asked around other places but it seems like there is no answer. As mysterious as Bigfoot!

So here's a question I also wanted to ask: should I just start a new account since everything has to be done all over again, or just keep going and keep the trophies (I am level 12, 5 Platinums, 35-37 games played)

May as well keep going to keep trophies under your same account.
Why start a new account for it? Just for the sake of a diff username?

Welcome to my world. This happened to my PS3 and I lost every saved game that I had. Majorly pissed off and there wasn't a damn thing that I could do about it. Still haven't beaten Uncharted 2 or 3, Rachet & Clank and a few others that I was a decent way through. This is why I didn't play my PS3 for months on end. I was so bloody angry.

I guess so. Had so much progress, just annoyed it is all gone.

Yeah I'm sort of the same way at the moment. Heck, I even switched on the Xbox 360 this arvo. I think I may be going mad...

I would say keep your account unless there is something that really urks you about your current account. I mean when my first Playstation broke, was the original series, I had so many games on there and quite a few that were not quite done which really angered me but even with the new console generation I do not see a point in making all your progress for naught even thought it means little.

wow thats tough, but I though PSN usually keeps a back up of save game data when you play online games like Battlefield 3 and so forth, you tried seeing if there was a back up online?

Regular backups, if you don't have PS Plus then get a usb stick and everytime you make tons of progress on a game, copy the save file to it and you'll be just fine. Also, ps3 saves disappearing might be a big sign of a hardrive problem.

Oh man dude. That is rough. Sorry to hear about that. I'd just keep your account and take this as a lesson and a habit to back up your PlayStation at least once a month.

Wow. This hasn't happened here. We love the PS3. I use it for mainly Bluray playback and and netflix streaming, but my son uses it for gaming. He has never lost any save data...wonder if it was a glitch of if there was an overheat issue? is it possible the game player was placed next to a magnetic source?
