Buying Consoles From Pawn Shop

Would you ever buy a video game console from a pawn shop? Why or why not?

If it saves you a bundle then I don't see any problem.

Make sure they provide you with some kind of guarantee though. Most of those trade-in type places in the UK offer at least 6 months warranty on stuff like consoles.

You can get some real bargains if you know where to look and how to haggle.

This. The guarantee is NECESSARY, otherwise it's a bad idea.

I find it dicier to get games from a pawn shop than a console. The pawn shop near here has a good record with consoles and a guarantee on those and their games. Another one here--which I discovered before I found the decent one--would have these clear discs that just didn't work. The game wouldn't play, the game would free during opening scenes (had that problem with Skyrim), and other stuff.

Actually, the local pawnshops prefer cellphones and other communication devices over gaming consoles, as people tend to benefit more from using cellphones as well as iPhones and iPads. But in cases where a certain pawnshop sells you a gaming console, you must ascertain that the pawnshop owner makes a guarantee that the console is in good working condition. The last thing you want to see is your gaming console which suddenly ceases functioning properly right after paying the purchase price.

I have always been wary of buying electronics from pawnshops because most of the electronics are used. I just don't want to end up buying something faulty. I brought a couple of games at a pawn shop once and the games ended up being worthless.

Getting good deals dor used items is what pawnshops are known for. Though, some might be selective in whAt they decide to sell, while others are generally into all item, even your mums jewelries would be bought.

So, concerning consoles, it all depends on the pawnshop, if only they buy well tested equipments. Some just want to see this devices on, and perform all the functions and not considering the strenght or speed at which it performs this said functions.

For me it's really a 50/50 chance you get good stuff out of pawnshops as it depends on the previous user. I'll never advice anyone to buy game cds from pawnshop, they never had any warranty after first use even from the manufacturers.

I don't see why not as long as they are still in working condition and are under some kind of warranty from the shop. Buying from pawnshops is actually a great alternative for the people that want to get a console but can't afford it full priced. I bought quite a few things from pawnshops and they all worked so there's nothing wrong with buying from them.

I personally don't trust second-hand electronics unless I personally knew the first hand. I've gotten burned alot by places like Pawnshops and EB Games actually. I just refuse to buy used games and stuff now.

Used consoles no,I would'nt either but used games? Ive bought some now and again over time and havent had an issue from memory.
If you do then take it back/contact seller etc etc.

Never bought used, but I agree and would not buy from a pawn shop or anyone for that matter. A pawn shop has no idea if everything is running ok. Sure they can do a test and try a game but I doubt they are putting any serious time into checking if everything is in perfect condition. And even with a warranty, if it breaks and they have no other PS4's in stock, what then? Do you get a full refund, do they give you store credit? I would rather buy new knowing full well that it is in perfect condition and have that year long warranty to ensure if anything is not.

I'd probably never buy from a pawn shop. Though I don't know where any are in my area. If I'm buying used, I'll go to a specialty retailer that specializes in that particular used product. Though I mostly buy used games and I just go to GameStop. I've never had a problem with that.

Nope, I won't buy consoles used. I just would rather not buy a console used and then something be wrong with it. Some pawn shops might offer a warranty, but I still wouldn't. I will buy games used occasionally, but I prefer everything new especially consoles. It's also because I bought a used PS3 once and the controller they gave me with it was horrible. Retro consoles on the other hand are a different story.

I have tried it once, and it was amazing. Pawnshops do intensive check up on devices that are being pawned and they take care of them.

As long as it has a decent warranty (six months) then I've got no issue with it. That's the only real drawback of buying second hand.
