First next-gen Hitman details revealed

In an open letter posted on the Hitman website, the studio said the game will star a globetrotting Agent 47 in the prime of his career, fulfilling contracts across "huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels" with the support of the ICA and long-term handler Diana Burnwood.

IO, which plans to reveal more about the title later this year, said on Thursday:

"The game concentrates on the core Hitman fantasy of using a wide range of tools to take out a diverse group of targets across expansive, exotic locations around the world.

"We are building this game on the backbone of the Glacier 2 engine, using the best parts and what we have learnt through Hitman: Absolution and drawing inspiration from past titles like Contracts and Blood Money to fulfil the core Hitman fantasy.

"That means we're packing in an extreme level of detail on the largest levels we have ever built for a Hitman game. We've adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels.

"Our aim is to create living, breathing and believable levels which will allow gamers to play around with the AI to create those unique moments every fan of the Hitman franchise loves."

Contracts Mode will return in the new game, enabling players to create and share their own custom challenges online, while Agents 47's "magic pockets" have been removed, perhaps paving the way for the return of his weapon carrying briefcase.

The first details about the project arrive a few weeks after Hitman publisher Square Enix addressed reports claiming it had canned a triple-A Hitman title previously in development at Square Enix Montreal.

In a statement which didn't deny that a Hitman title has been dropped, the company said on January 6:

"IO Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles and Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise. We look forward to sharing more details about these titles later this year."

Anyone a fan of the Hitman series? I had the HD Trilogy set and loved them, although I probably won't be too fussed picking this up for my PS4.

Not had the pleasure of playing a Hitman title for years now. I found the first one or two pretty hard but I was also a lot younger then too. The newest one (Absolution?) looks quite good though. I'd pick it up to see what the craic is.

Absolution was fun and there were a lot of things I saw that could have been vastly improved BUT the fact they're going more open-world and seems they're going to do it as realistic as possible; I am down for this, I will buy it! Also, Contracts mode was epic in Absolution but a bit unfair, it needs to be so that there are NO LIMITS at all and a million ways to take out targets and such.

I've played Hitman and completed them before but I'm not a die hard fan of it. I'm more of a fan to the genre instead so even though I'm that excited for Hitman, I'm interested nonetheless because I'm a fan of the genre. The last Hitman was quite good in my opinion so I have confidence that this new one is going to be great too.

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin is still one of my top 5 favorite games ever. While I enjoyed all of its successors, I never felt any of them lived up to what Silent Assassin had to offer at the time of its release.

One thing I love about the Hitman games is you can play through it following a walkthrough, and then play again on your own account with your own strategies and see how the situations differ. So many options!

The Next Hitman is in Turkey?

Interestingly enough, IO Interactive is dropping major hints that the next Hitman may take place in Turkey. There is no confirmation but it looks like according to what I think is an exclusive screenshot that Agent 47 is heading to Istanbul. I'm not sure why this site is so sure that this is happening but I think it'd be pretty cool.

Hitman hitting Turkey?

It sounds good and I'm liking the changes that their making. I like the idea of bringing back the briefcase, because maybe that forces a bit more strategy in what weapons we bring on assignment. I'm also glad that despite the changes that their bringing back Contract mode because that is an awesome part of the game.

It's all looking interesting. I can't wait for the official trailer because I really want to know what's happening with 47 who at this point is getting old. I wonder if this maybe the last in the series? Or at least the last game for 47, because I would like to see what happens with an aging super assasin.

Hitman wasn't a good movie but as a video game, it is awesome. I like the slow motion kills the trailers and the story line. Basically, I just like killing people :) PlayStation 4 will make my year if they decide to make the graphics better.
