What Do You Think Of War Thunder's Free-To-Play Model?

There has been a lot of debate about F2P game models recently. Some people like the idea, while others see the exploits that are often taken, such as charging players for extra content, which can often times give them unfair advantages. What do you think of War Thunder's F2P model? Is it fair and enjoyable? Should more games implement similar systems?

I personally love anything fee, who cares that you have to use real-world currency to buy better upgrades.

I'd never buy anything in game, i'd much prefer to work my way through the game and unlock the upgrades. It may take me a while to get what I want but it just gives me an extra reason to play more of the game.

On the one hand I think F2P is good, because:
A) You get a great game for free. This enables access for everyone, more gamers can only be a good thing.
B) You can choose whether to spend any money or choose to play through for longer if you enjoy it.
C) You can also help yourself out if you get stuck.

On the other hand I think it's bad because:
A) It can easily create an elitist situation where you have people who can/want to buy upgrades VS. people who can't afford/don't want to buy.
B) It could be easy to manipulate.
C) How many parents have a credit card linked to their child's account where the kid knows the password? I'm far from an expert but a potential problem? The iPhone has shown us what happens with kids and In-App Purchases.

All that said and done, I think War Thunder has done it pretty well. I haven't played with it too much yet but it's looking very promising. I can't see 'The Paywall' that you get with other games that make it impossible to progress without shelling out. It's relatively easy for a beginner like me to get into without being beaten up by higher ranked enemies.

TL-DR: Done well, I like it.

I like it, I think it also brings in a lot more players as its easy to try and you don't have to drop $60 on it. If it weren't for the model I never would tried it, and I am glad I did. I've even dropped a few bucks on it to speed up some research getting started. It honestly doesn't create that much of an advantage, it shot me into higher difficulty matchups and I died much more often than I was.
