Next Call of Duty will be a “next-gen-first development”

Sledgehammer Games is working on the next Call of Duty, and according to Activision’s Eric Hirshberg, the game will be developed primarily for next-gen consoles. In an interview with IGN, Activision’s publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg, shed some light on how Sledgehammer is handling the development of the next Call of Duty.

“Sledgehammer is approaching this as a next-gen-first development.

“Obviously in the console-transition year, anyone who developed a cross-generational game last year had to deal with the fact that the technology of the next-gen platforms was still coming into focus and changing quite a bit during the development process…. Now that we have the next-gen hardware out in the marketplace and solid, that is our primary development,” he added.

I really have gone off CoD games, this news doesn't appeal to me one bit. It's not the technology used but it's the broken MP that Activition and which ever studio constantly put out year after year.

It will be a plus though if it is really developed only for next gen systems in mind, not cross gen.

I'm the same way. I lost interest in CoD a long time ago. Maybe being on next-gen will bring up some innovation. It would be sad to see the same thing reused with a new coat of paint.

I think we can all agree that COD was THE STANDARD at one point and then lost it's way in commercialism and recycling. Hopefully Activision won't try to re-package the same product with better graphics.

The problem is they need a fresh angle on the CoD series.

That's easier said than done for corporate reasons. While sales did slump a tad for Ghosts, COD is still the hottest selling franchise with too few for competition. From a CEO's perspective I don't see why they would change that much from the other titles.

Because they are slowly loosing a core audience, us veterans of the series are slowly loosing interest and thus when you loose a core audience it isn't long until everyone leaves. I'll give it maybe 3 years?

Ive had all the CoD games that were on PS3 but did'nt really play it hard til MW2,I max prestiged on Black Ops,MW3 and Black Ops 2 but I havent played Ghosts much at all.Prestige 1 lvl something at the moment and I had the game since launch,PS3 and PS4.
I think I dont play it as much partly cause most of my clan dont play it either and much of the fun is partying up with clan members, and partly cause for some reason it just doesnt interest me as much,I hope its Ghosts, not CoD in general.

But,as the topic says,Sledgehammer is doing the next CoD which will come out this year, and hopefully with make more use of the PS4's power, rather than making it cross gen they will concentrate on the new consoles, and PS3/360 versions will be a variation of it.This is good, and hopefully,in theory it will make a better game all round.
Time will tell.
