Thoughts on E3 news for the Vita?

I didn't actually get to see a lot of the E3 Sony Conference unfortunately, so I'm not certain how much attention the Vita got, but what I did hear was a lot of openness on Sony's part towards indie game developers, especially on the inclusion of select indie titles for both the PS4 and the Vita. What got me really excited was that two of my favorite Indie games, Hotline Miami and Don't Starve are getting brought over, and hopefully on Vita. While I am sad as this means I'll probably have to buy them both a second time, I'm glad to see that Sony is finally picking up on the Indie scene, and hopefully bringing a lot more indie games to our handhelds!

I hate to say it, but I think Vita is just slowly drifting out of public conscience. There is always room for multiple consoles, but when it comes to handhelds, Sony will always be in 2nd place and I think they are starting to realize that. It was a nice try and there will always be some nice niche titles out there, but that's about it.

I just hope that they forget about the Vita for this E3 because of the PS4, but will come out strong next year. Such a good piece of hardware should not go unnoticed for long, the PSP also had a slow start and it turned out to be the best handheld console made, so give it time.

I agree with BlackSolaris that it's better for Sony to shelve any ideas for Vita for this E3. With PS4 set to come out something next year, it should maintain the current lead it has over Microsoft. PS4 is arguably the better console compared to the mess that is Xbox One. Sony can then return to focusing on the Vita, maybe thinking on how to improve the battery life and have a better design to fit a person's hands.

I hope this happens. I also think that they should do a re-design of the whole thing. They were doing so well with the first PSP, and I don't know what they did to bring it into the state it's in right now. I loved my old PSP and I'd gladly get this new one if only it didn't look like such a step back. Hopefully they still see the potential in it enough to keep it alive.
