PS Games You Would Consider Classics

It's hard to tell how well the current games will age, and most of the recent past games have already worn out their welcome with the introduction of their newer and more refined versions. Tekken 6 spoiling me so much, for example, that I can hardly imagine myself playing Tekken 3 anymore, or worse, Tekken and Tekken 2. This isn't true for all games though, in my opinion, and lots of games make such of an impact that it is their successors that tend to have a hard time keeping up. Personally, I choose Burnout Revenge. The new version seems alright, but I'm skeptical of its superiority without the crash mode.

When you say classic, it means a timeless gem that could age quite well. I could actually name a few. I won't include PS 3 games because it's still current gen I believe. Here's my list:

For me of course it would have to be Final Fantasy VII. That game was and still is considered a game changer, as it redefined what a RPG is and showed just how important a game's characters and story are. Also another thing was great about Final Fantasy VII were it's visuals. Of course now they may seem outdated, but at the time were a landmark achievement in gaming.

Man, I loved Rogue Galaxy. To this day I very rarely hear anyone even mention it. I picked it up on a whim after seeing positive reviews, and I think it's one of my favorite games of all time.

I wasn't really a fan myself, but I think a lot of people would say Hitman: Blood Money was a classic. I would probably like it more if I wasn't so bad at it. I'm not really a fan of stealth unless it's done in a really specific way (like Arkham Asylum/City), so that's one reason. I hear a lot of people talk about Blood Money, though, so I'd definitely include that.

Oh, I forgot to mention two other titles for the PS 1 that I consider as classics:
-Vagrant Story
-Chrono Cross

Vagrant Story brought a very unique story, setting and gameplay to the aging PS 1. It was like an action rpg/turn based RPG hybrid.

Chrono Cross on the other hand was a perfect sequel to the amazing Chrono Trigger. It was able to tell a tale of fantasy that engaged the player from beginning to end.

I've never even heard of Rogue Galaxy until today, I'll have to check that out. I love hearing about gems like these that I've missed, and Okami looks nice as well, thanks!

I agree that GOW2 is up there with all the other classics, as well. It's pretty much the Contra of this generation, I think. I've never really gotten GT's appeal, but I suppose it's this famous and sought after for good reasons, and the fact that they are still making installments for it now is a testament to that.

I had Okami also, but I didn't get far in it because of my dumb console dying on me. I've been meaning to buy the HD version on PSN, but I haven't gotten around to it. Everyone says it's such a fantastic game--and I did like what I did play--but I guess you'll have to see for yourself.

Rogue Galaxy was a lot of fun. There were plenty of side-missions or minigames to keep you occupied. I remember traveling around to different planets looking for items and collectibles. Another good one was Dragon Quest VIII. I clocked a ton of hours on that game; I really wish I could play it again.

I almost completely forgot about Dragon Quest VIII. Thank you for reminding us about this fantastic RPG. It had pretty cell shaded graphics too that were similar to that of Rogue Galaxy. My only gripe is that the turn-based fighting system of DQ VIII bored me. Nevertheless, the exploration was something to behold. The world was so vast and immersive that i easily was sucked into the game world.
