Good fighting games for beginners?

So I've been playing Tekken Revolution and am having a blast, so much so I'm even playing online which I rarely do with Red Dead Redemption being an exception. So I am just wondering, what is a good or the best fighting game for beginners in terms of game controls?

I am not very good when it comes to fighting games. I haven't really played any except for a little Tekken 6 and MK vs DC Universe but I really dig Tekken Revolution and even have won a few online matches (if I can win, anyone can win). The controls for Tekken Revolution are great for me as they are easy enough to pick up and memorize. Simple but effective (and fun!) I really want to get into some other fighting titles, not for online purposes but so I can play arcade and even play against my girlfriend as we love couch co-op.

So any recommendations?

Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition is a good place to start because how active the community is on the PS3. Then you got Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3, which is a little harder to get into, but really fun nevertheless. Also, if you like that sort of thing, you can always go with Blazblue Continuum Shift Extended or Soul Calibur V, both great underrated games.

Ah thank you for the suggestions. Are there any demos for any of titles you mentioned on PSN?

Mortal Kombat 9 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 are also great. I love MK 9 for its over the top action and violence. TTT2 takes Tekken 6 a step further by incorporating tag team play which I think is even more addictive. If you want, you could also grab PlayStation All Stars. I think chicks would dig it.

Really easy fighting games are the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series. If you're a fan of Naruto, you will love this game. It's really easy, most of the combos are done with one or 2 buttons and you have a lot of characters to pick from. Also you should check Injustice: Gods Among Us... It's a really easy to pick-up game with awesome characters such as Superman, Batman, Flash and so on. Check these on youtube and see if you are interested in them. GL

Thanks for more suggestions.

Yeah I saw Tekken Tag Tournament 2 the other day and thought it looked good. Does it play like Tekken Revolution?

Unfortunately I never got into Naruto. But Injustice - can't believe I slipped that past me, it's got freaking Superman in it!! What's wrong with me? Ha.

Soul Calibur and Tekken are both easy to learn and pick up but difficult to master, so I'd highly recommend any entry in those fantastic franchises. I'm a huge Soul Calibur nut, so I had to recommend it.

I agree with Soul Calibur actually. It's a really great game, and although I agree it is very difficult to master, it becomes easier once you get the hang of it. I'd also recommend Mortal Kombat as it's another really fun game and easy to pick up, but yet again tricky to master. Some of the bosses are guaranteed to infuriate, but there are certain techniques you can use to beat them much more easily. I used YouTube to help me out a bit.

The Soul Calbur games are fun, but often unforgiving. I had Soul Calibur II and then Soul Calibur IV, but I pretty much had to give up on them after a while because they were so insanely difficult. The combos are tricky, but once you get some of them down, the game as a whole is more fun to play. I haven't played Soul Calibur V yet, but I've heard it's pretty similar to past games. I actually found Injustice: Gods Among Us to be pretty accessible, even for someone like me who doesn't really enjoy fighting games. Plus, there are like 5 difficulty levels so you can adjust accordingly.

Unfortunaly, i don't think that such as thing as "demos" exist for fighting games. It's usually a "pick up the whole thing or just forget it" kind of deal.
Of course you also have the new Tekken title, which is a free-to-play... sort of. If you like the gameplay feel, i recommend you to get the previous installment because it has a lot more characters and the gameplay is better.

So would you say that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has the same controls as Tekken Revolution (the free to play PSN download)? Because I love that game and really hope that TTT2 has the same controls.

I've recently just played Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and I enjoyed it very much, so I'd recommend that, especially if you're already a fan of the Tekken games as you've mentioned. It's easy to pick up, and the tag combos are fun to learn and execute. I've also just tried playing 4 players with this and MK as well, and I'd definitely recommend it as well for these games as it's very fun to have 4 people in the room focused on one thing as opposed to before when two of the 4 players would just be hanging around waiting for their turn.

I like games where you don't absolutely have to memorize every single combo. I also like it when the difficulty doesn't go from easy to hell-on-earth in a matter of minutes, a la Soul Calibur IV. I had a lot of fun with that game, but once I beat the first portion of story mode it was like someone set the difficulty to max and put a blindfold on me.

Well, I've started my fighting game journey. Started with Fighting Vipers which was fun albeit short. Now I've been playing Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I've been playing Tekken Tag Tournament 2 online and arcade (as well as Fight Labs and finished it, after some furious hours) and I am just having the hardest time with the game. I've played for quite a few hours now and as much as I try to learn and practice, I just get my butt handed to me online and offline.

I've really been keen at trying out SSFIV and I liked playing STIII: Third Strike (the demo). So my question is, are the controls better then TTT2 for "beginners"?

Basically, I mean are they more simple and easier to pull of combos then TTT2? I've researched quite a bit on the controls for both games, but I'd love to hear from you guys.

Like Joker said above "I like games where you don't absolutely have to memorize every single combo"

Any opinions are appreciated :)

Soul Calibur IV was one of the worst with those move lists. I swear it went on for several pages; and considering there's one for each character, it adds up. Gameplay is fun, though, if you can get past the crippling difficulty jumps.

Yeah, that's the thing that traumatizes me. But I suppose that's just the way fighting games are. I wish they made some games for "new players" to the genre.

Mortal Kombat for PS2 and probably most other succeeding MK titles after that are where I had the most fun playing without really knowing much of the controls. I liked MK for the PS2 because the addition of weapons was properly done and didn't feel like a gimmick at all and using the environment death traps there was really fun, probably even far more than how Injustice does it, from what I've seen. Also, the fatalities mechanics are different here in that you can just button mash and get different results every time. This is probably the only version they did this in, but the later versions are just as simple and fun too.

You will still probably get beaten badly by someone who knows the combos, but for two players who have no idea how to play a certain fighting game or even just for having an easier time learning on your own, I'd say MK would be the best bet, particularly MK: Armageddon for PS2.

Any early Soul Caliber title. Just didn't enjoy IV too much the difficulty got stupidly hard after first playthrough. :/

Yes, I've read the MK is good for beginners and I have been eyeing the new Mortal Kombat. Plus, how awesome it would be to play as Freddy Kreuger!!

Yes, you can combo punch and spam uppercut your way to victory in the early stages of Mortal Kombat. Better yet, you could press all the buttons rapidly in no particular order and get great results! And your in game character would probably look cool in the process too. Again, your in-game character, not you.
