Decent Movie Based Video Games

The movie and gaming industry seem to have trouble translating themselves between two platforms, and in turn I don't think I've ever seen a good movie adaptation of a video game either. That is, if you still consider the "so bad their good" as bad movies, of which I don't, because I love the Double Dragon movie, both MK movies, especially the Street Fighter movie! But I digress...

I've recently played the Transformers game on the PS3, and it wasn't too bad, but it was so "okay" that it got a bit annoying. I had the same problem with Afro Samurai too, and even just hearing about the reviews of Thor, I already know how it's going to play out. I have heard some good things about the Wolverine game and I plan on checking that out soon.

So on to the actual question, has there ever been a decent movie based game? I'm ask primarily for the other consoles besides PS3 (PS1, PS2, PSP), but feel free to comment on a recent game as well if you feel like it.

When you say movie based games, you are referring to a game that was based on a movie and not the other way around right? If that's the case I can't think of any. All that comes to mind are crappy games like The Fifth Element for the PS1. Oh wait, was The Warriors for the PS 2 based on a movie?

To be honest, all of the games out there that are based off of movies and TV shows are really bad. It is almost as if the developers have put half of the effort into making these types of games, because the movie or TV show that it is based off of already has a following, and they will buy the game anyway, despite the game sucking. I have never played any game that was based off of movies that were good, except one and that was the Silent Hill game for the PC. The game starts out good. It is creepy as hell, but then after you break out of that room, the game totally goes down hill. Down hill for Silent Hill.

As for games that are made after TV shows, the only one that I have played and loved was The Walking Dead: The Game. Brilliant game, and brilliant ideas have gone into it. The game will never be the same for everyone who plays it, because the choices that you make in the game directly effect what happens to the characters ad where you end up. I would suggest that game to anyone.

How about a God of War movie? I don't mean toss a couple of chains onto muscle bound guy and let him pulverize stuff for a couple of hours, but explore some of the things in the game. There's a lot of anguish, pain and sadness in that story and I think it would translate well to an action game. You also have plenty of times with sexy ladies and crazy bad guys and with today's special effects, running up a giant isn't too hard.

Oh, and does anybody remember Irritating Stick for the PlayStation 1? It was a game that is based on a Japanese TV show. It had you guiding a ball through a maze. That was pretty much it and they charged $40 for it! Also, the Rugrats game for the PS1 was pretty crappy with poor controls. The South Park game for the PS1 was pretty decent but it does not border an 8/10 rating. It's more of a 6.5 or 7.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but I heard a lot of good things about the Spider-Man 2 video game. Everyone says it's the one game based on a movie that actually turned out well. I can't think of any others off the top of my head, but I did hear that the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game (whatever it's called) was pretty good. I played the demo and found it surprisingly enjoyable, but I never played the full game.
