PS3 Games For Kids

Are there any PS3 games for kids? I'm looking for some games for my nephew, and I don't see this topic coming up very much. It seems like standard assumption that if I want more kid's games then I should just buy a Wii. That said, I'm looking for "less mature" games and I'm now thinking that I'd probably have to buy a Wii, and I'm not that against it, since it still looks pretty fun, but I just wanted to confirm here first if anyone has come across some good PS3 games that are kid friendly and/or not too serious. Some titles that come to mind, off the top of my head, are PS All Stars and maybe all of the fighting games except MK. Any other ones that would be worth noting?

What kind of games do you think they would enjoy? Racing, platforming, action/adventure?

Although the Wii has more "kid" friendly games, you can still find a lot of great games for kids 10 or 12 and below. Here are a few games which I think would be more suitable for children:

1. Little Big Planet Series
2. Toy Story 3
3. Katamari Forever
4. ModNation Racers
5. Sports Champions (You will NEED a Playstation Move accessory for this. This is similar to most Wii games out there. But in my opinion Wii has better games of this genre than the Playstation.)
6. Ni No Kuni (It's a new game. I recommend this for the older kids or more mature thinking kids. It's not a stressful RPG like the Final Fantasy series. Plus it's clean, meaning no foul language is in the game. It's cartoonish or anime-ish graphics wise, because it was co-developed by Studio Ghibli. Basically it's a kid's version of Final Fantasy and Pokemon in my opinion. It's great for all ages if you ask me.)

So those are the games that comes to mind. Hope this helps.

Definitely, the Littles Big Planet are perfect for children's games.
There ausi ModNation Racer and Little Big Planet Karting is a kind of Mario Kart version PS3 version.

I recently tried EPIC mickey .... It was really suitable for children 7 years old. So now, but for this kind of games, there is the Wii U.

Yes, there are a lot of kid's games for the PS 3. Aside from the games mentioned like Little Big Planet, there are also a handful of games out there that are tie ins for animated movies like Bolt and Wreck it Ralph. We could also consider Ratchet and Clank as kid's games. However, I do agree that the Wii has a lot more quality games for kids.

Action/Adventure would be my best bet, but really probably any game that doesn't require you to do missions in a strip club would do. :D

Thanks for all the contributions so far, guys! I'll be checking these out and hopefully I find enough of these games to confirm that I don't have to buy a Wii.

Well then, everybody else who has replied has come up with some great suggestions :)

Well I don't think there are many more games I could add to the list of games so far which are all pretty good, the three LBP games are definitely something you should get.

Some other games you could probably could would maybe be Just Dance if you want a game that has less to do with sitting on your butt. Another good series would be the Lego games which I still find enjoyable, also there's any number of Sonic games you could get and there's Portal 2 or Quantum Conundrum if you're looking for puzzles. Hope you find the games you're looking for.

You really can't go wrong with the Lego games. They tend to be less expensive, and they're suitable for all ages. I've been playing them for years, too, so it's not like they're exclusively for kids. It helps if he's into the franchise that the game is based on, but it shouldn't matter all that much since the gameplay is very similar in each game.

I don't really play that many games marketed at kids but I do have a couple that the whole family can enjoy:

  • Little big planet - This one is really good and it is a PS3/PSP exclusive. The whole idea is about building your own world, sharing it and having adventures with friends. Really fun and worth buying
  • All of the Lego games - I would in particular recommend Batman or the new Lord of the Rings game. They are all fairly similar but very fun and very varied. They encourage team work and are often quite humorous.

well if you can connect to the internet with PS3 then I would look at there online store there are many games to choose from there,
but maybe get Need for Speed Most Wanted
it's a pretty good game.
or Uncharted.

I play video games with my son, 10, a lot and we have played some great games on the PS3. Someone already mentioned the Little Big Planet games and my son loves those. We also play all sorts of sports game together especially Madden football. He also loves all of the Lego games and they are actually very fun as an adult too. All kinds of superhero games can work as well for kids if you check the rating first.

I think kids like to play those basic games they understand, such as a game like Grand Theft Auto. They understand stealing someones car, or just walking up to someone on the street and punching them lol.

Get a PlayStation move. It has a ton of fun little mini games that kids will love since they have to move around and act silly to beat them. Now if its just a game that you can sit down and play check out PlayStation All-stars. Its a pretty good super smash bros type of game but with PlayStation characters.

This got a good chuckle out of me.

I agree with Redkyon with the Move games. Kids want games that simple, entertaining, and that there is a chance they can win or complete stages.

I know a lot of people have said this but I just want to reinforce their opinions.

Definitely, definitely, definitely go with the Little Big Planet and Lego series. They're a ton of fun and their characters are so adorable. haha
