PS4 V XB1 a year down the line

OK.. before reacting, read what i put to the end! LOL

I dunno about you, but as one of the lucky duel console owners, this last year has been an experience for both consoles and here's my thoughts that you may / may not agree with.

XB1 - Started off poor, and felt disapointed. COD Ghosts looked terrible, and the lack of system apps and broken games like BF4 hindered. My whole Xb1 starting experience fell on the back of RYSE, which frankly gave me hope the Xb1 would be great. I still stand by i thknk RYSE is the current best looking next gen game.

Slowly but surely XB1 have turned things around though. The CONSTANT flow of system updates, and new exclusive games like Titanfall and Forza have really pushed the console into next gen. Yes titanfall is not the next coming of FPS MP games, but it's still damm fine to play. So much so i've already put 3 days, 22 hours into it!

This is another common theme i've found with cross console owners, and that's people ARE more sociable on XB live. I have less friends on my XB1 friends list and newer ones, than my PS4, but EVERY time i log i always get invites to chat lobbies/ games from loads of people. I don't get that PS4 side ( more later on this )

XB has this awsome EA hub exclusive for £20 a year which is AWSOME. I get demos of games as well. XB give us free games, and Max and the brother hood is awsome.

With Sunset Overdrive, Quantom Break, Tomb Raider ( games that appeal to me ) on the horizon, i have to say a year later ( nearly ) I'm VERY happy with my XB1 experience

PS4

As a PS3 fan i wanted to get a PS4 first but couldn't so got the XB1 instead. I eventually got the PS4 and was initially very impressed. The game i got with it was Infamous and soon after got Killzone and MLB14.

I've played Infamous 2 and quite liked it, but felt Second Son was pretty, just lacking something interesting to do ( i mean one level you search public toilets for crying out loud!! ) and Killzone Shadow fall was just flat too. MLB14 kept me hooked for a while but have read that online is poor.
So after that i've really struggled to find something interesting to play. BF4/COD are old hat now, and there is no car racing games on the PS4 and hasn't been or will be for anytime soon.

I missed getting Resogun free but bought it anyway, and although it's good, it's too short, and repetitive.

So i got Motogp14 and thank cricky i have as i've been on that TONNS! Hoping to platinum the game and getting close to it now. I have got Trine and stick it to the man to play. But after that have found the PS4 lacking in games when compared to the fun i've had on my XB1

I love Hack and Slash and Xb1 has RYSE - PS4 Nothing.. unless you think KNACK is actually worth mentioning! LOL
I like driving games and XB1 has Forza - PS4 only Motogp
I like FPS shooters, and have been bored with COD. Xb1 has Titanfall - PS4 killzone... not contest.. Titanfall is far more interesting.

So apart from the free PS plus games, Valiant hearts and MotoGp i've not found much of a reason to pick up my PS4 and looking at the release dates especially PS4 exclusive's i've not got much to look forward to anytime soon either.

Add to this i still seem to have trouble getting on to the PS store and the headset you get with PS4 compared to the Xb1 is poor.

I don't get any party chat invites from my ps4 chums even though i have far more friends on my PS list than i do my Xb1 one. Is this because PS owners aren't generally aware of how great the chat party feature is as they are not used to it, compared to the Xb users who are used to it from the Xb360 days perhaps ??

Soo all in all i have to say a year later i've enjoyed my Xb1 more, due to the exclusive games, more sociable games and friends and more apps, that keep coming far quicker than they do PS4 side. I am SOOO used to the kinect now on XB1 i find it tedious not to have the camera on the PS4.

I am SOOO looking forward to PS exclusives like Uncharted and God of War, and Dark Sorcerer, but it's been a year wait PS side and still a long time to wait for anything REALLY decent. I know the machine is capable but nothing i feel is really pushing it yet.

Saying all this though i reckon i've spent more time on my PS3 and PS vita this last year than next gen. The last gen games are still the most rounded and better expereinces.

I have both systems and love them both. I will have to agree with you. The ps4 needs to drop somthing big sometime soon!

Honestly and personally I will say that I think that both consoles lack in certain areas but I still think that the two of them are really good consoles. I mean right now I still think that they both have a lot of work to do in certain areas but I really think that they are good consoles. They will get better with time.

I would say just the opposite of the 1st post here, just a different opinion.. I had my Xbox One from day one and after using it months and months went out and bought my FIRST EVER Playstation, a PS4, as its just trying to be so much and lacks in a lot of ways.

I think in a year, both systems will be better, but it just depends on what you want. Do you want a more pure gaming system, the PS4 or do you want a entertainment system that also plays games, the Xbox One. They both will have their exclusives like Halo, Killzone, but overall the majority of games will be available for both systems. No 1-2-3 games are going to sway me one way or the other.

I don't see a great advantage for the Xbox One in games, maybe because I just got the PS4, but all I see are some sweet games available and tons coming this month and the future. I guess its just what we each like.

Kinect is a failure and was removed from the main package and for me and everyone I know it hardly works like it should even after all these months, so much so I removed mine. Tv features and all that are slow and not even worth using IMO.

I am also in one of the Xbox One beta preview programs and MS is just changing things about the Xbox One just to change it trying to win people over. More updates don't mean better, it means things are not right and it needs all of them. The PS4 is plainer but pretty solid and doesn't need them. I really like the streamlined not throw everything and then some in the UI like the PS4 has now that I used it.

I have roughly 15 games and Ryse and Titanfall both get old fast to me. Ryse looks super, but gets super repetitive as you can pretty much just press 2 buttons and complete it. Titanfall looks soso, sure the multiplayer is OK, but it was supposed to be a system seller and it failed big time. I actually have a lot more fun playing Killzone with the owl, than Titanfall with the titan.

There are way more demos and free to play games on the PS4 than the Xbox One. I played Warframe, Pinball, DC Universe Online and Blacklight Retribution yesterday and all were nice for free games. I have Max for the Xbox One and its a fun childish type game, but Knack has way superior better graphics and gameplay if you ask me.

EA hub is so mysterious on what they are going to put up and when and for how long and so on, not a single person I know has signed up for it yet as just to much in not known.

It all depends on what people want. Most HDTV's have apps and internet, most bluray players have apps and internet, most phone have apps I don't really need that in a gaming system so I don't really consider that any advantage.

I am going to write up a comparison of both soon, but after not even have the PS4 a week, I only played my Xbox One once and that was while Killzone got a big update.

I would say the Playstation 4 will beat the Xbox One in the short term and the long term, just because of the superior policies, rules, focus on gaming, and great exclusives. It's time to show Microsoft they just can't cheat and treat gamers horrible with the Xbox One, since they seem pretty out of line and confused on what the Xbox One should be. On one side, Microsoft wants the Xbone to be a TV Cable Box with tons of advertising, and on the other side they want it to be a weak, horrible Kinect console.

In the long run, it's going to be just like last gen between these two, the Playstation brand will come out on top and the Xbox brand will be a close second. Why? Because of exclusives, Microsoft has never had enough exclusives and almost all of their exclusives are ported to PC at some point or another.

I would say just the opposite of the 1st post here, just a different opinion..
You've had your PS4 for a week, so how on earth can you compare the 2 consoles ?

Kinect is a failure and was removed from the main package and for me and everyone I know it hardly works like it should even after all these months, so much so I removed mine.
Kinect is not a failure i use it ALL the time. It's awsome. So i now know you, so you can't blanket all users with Xb1's and say "everyone doesn't use it ". All of my XB buddies use it

I am also in one of the Xbox One beta preview programs and MS is just changing things about the Xbox One just to change it trying to win people over. More updates don't mean better,
Oh my goodness... this last line is incredible. So MS are not allowed to "win people over" ? In your eyes they can't do anything to improve ?? More updates DO make things better actually. They are improving the system hand over fist, so much so the interface for me is really slick and user friendly. With this sort of logic the first time the ps4 updates something i'll tell you updates don't make things better and that they are just trying to win people over..

I have roughly 15 games and Ryse and Titanfall both get old fast to me. Ryse looks super, but gets super repetitive as you can pretty much just press 2 buttons and complete it.
I reviewed Ryse for a web site and i discussed this myth about ryse is just a 2 button mash thought of train. My answer to this is, you have not grapsed the concept of how to string combo's together, the rewards you get for doing so, and if you put it on hard and try this 2 button mashing you'll get as far as the prologue before you realize the combat is far deeper than you think. Blimey if you think Ryse is 2 button mashing then don't ever play Diablo 3!! It's one button HOLD!

EA hub is so mysterious on what they are going to put up and when and for how long and so on, not a single person I know has signed up for it yet as just to much in not known.
So your critizing something that you've not even got ? I've got it and can tell you it's awsome value for money

It all depends on what people want.
Indeed it does and it apperas you never really wanted the Xb1

I am going to write up a comparison of both soon,
Please don't ... it's pretty obvious from the post above the sun will shine out the PS4's arse in your eyes when compared to your very narrow view of the Xb1.

I know what i've written may seem harsh and not offence is meant, but i'm pointing these things out as you've put the Xb1 down for things you've either not even got, or tried to experience, and it comes across that you don't even want the Xb1 to improve itself in the tone of what you have said.

Like others have said BOTH consoles are infact awsome in their own ways, and frankly there is very little between them RIGHT NOW.. ( this is key .. right now ) It's wrong to say the PS4 is better for things that are coming.. cos they haven't come yet and as per the OP i've been waiting nearly a year for that "something" and by the look of games on the horizon i've got a LONG time to wait for any PS exlcusive to do so. There is absoultely no reason the PS4 can't indeed pull away in games terms from the XB1, but for me personally as someone who is only interested in games, not console specs, i'd say they are neck and neck and the systems of the XB1 make it a better experience with those few games, especially the Xb exclusive ones.

For me Killzone sums up the PS4 side of things in a nutshell. It's a GORGEOUS looking game, it runs very sweet, and it tantilizes what the console is capable of to make anyone who's got a PS4 very excited indeed ( like me ).
But... however pretty the game is, how well it runs, it's still a very very dull boring game.. and THAT my friend is my issue. The FUN games ( so far ) seem to be sausage side on the Xb1, but that is just for the games that tick my personal box, like Titanfall, Ryse, Max.

One of my homies have an Xbox 1. And we were playing tomb raider on it and if didn't feel as great on it than it does on the PS4. I don't know, I just don't like the feel and logistics. There is something about playstation that keeps me satisfied.

I've had both. Started with a ps4, but all my buddies got the xbone. Tried it, liked it for the most part, but my marketplace almost never worked and it froze all the time. I also found it ridiculous that a 500 dollar console still had AA batteries in the controller. AND Kinect sucked balls. never worked right for me, no matter how many times I messed with it. I went back to ps4 after 2 months. The only thing I don't like, PS4 exclusives just aren't as good. There may be more, but Halo is an amazing game. Playstation never had a Halo type exclusive. Also, I wish PSN people were more open like they are in xbox live. Its like a different feel playing online. Playstation its still like your playing alone, and Xbox its like your playing with friends and the occasional pissed off 12 year old.

You can't argue with that :)

BOSH... ^^^^^ 100% agree. That's been my experience too ( see OP ) and for me playing with friends is a HUGE aspect for the enjoyment of it.

As per the OP the only reason i can think it's like this is because PS3 to PS4 users just aren't used to the joys of party chat, like 360 to Xb1 users were.

Last night for example i played destiny with my chums in a 3 man fire team. We still had 7 people in the chat room though while we're playing, all laughing and talking about stuff. 2 to 3 more people dropped by the chat room to say hello ... it was awsome.
I just don't get that with my PS chums, even though i've know my PS chums far far longer and i have more of them.
